I have purchased two guitars online, without test driving them.

The first was the Dean Chrome G; I had played multiple of these models in store before bidding (what I thought was a) ridiculously low price on eBay. Lo and behold, I won the auction (oops!). But it turned out ok--the guitar was great (after a minor setup issue) and it included an excellent hardshell case (at a price about $300 less than retail).

The second was a G&L Nighthawk. The only problem with it was the setup...it turned out ok each time, but I'm still a little gunshy about purchasing online.

OK, I just ordered the Squier VI from MF without trying it. We'll see how it works out.

Ha! It may never get here. They just pushed out my early October delivery date to New Year's eve !!! I knew these new basses/baritones were hot items, but December 31st ?!

Buying without trying is no problem for me but only from company with good reputation.

I get my gear from AMS, and so far they've done me right. They have an excellent payment plan (anywhere from 3 payment up to even 12 payment, when they have a special deal going,) if you have the plastic, and ships fast, too. I get all my stuff (just got some new strings there, and a couple other odds and ends, last week) there, and I don't have to deal with any hassles or headaches, like from the attitudes of the employees, or the usual cacophony of crap musicians playing loudly at the local Guitar Center :P I do miss the old days of the local music store hang out when I started out, sometimes. I guess that was a different time period and different place, though.

Waiting until New year's to receive your order is quite a long time,...if not too long  . I'd cancel the order with MF and order it from Sweetwater Sound out of Ft. Wayne,IN. :)

Sweetwater are good, but their inventory is a bit limited in some areas. And they require you to call voice to get some of the deals. Which I refuse to do. They're fast and friendly, though. And you get candy as case candy.

most big name stores give a 45 day for new items and 30 days for used return policy

It looks like all the big retailers are in the same situation. Customer service at Musician's Friend says I will probably get my guitar next week and not December. It appears that the sunburst finish has the highest demand and all the incoming sunbursts are sold already.

Hopin' for the best.

On a previous post I mentioned I purchased a Rickenbacker 360 on eBay, but was hesitant. Well, I just did it again, another 360 though I still felt very reluctant to do this. My motto has been "if you don't see the merchandise first, your ARE the merchandise". I apply this philosophy to any outgoing money that could be going to a potential scheme, including organized religion (please, my beliefs are not intended to offend). But... I was raised to see what I'm getting before I open my wallet).
