I have been looking for a good quality acoustic guitar for some time now and have been given the opportunity to trade my 2011 American special telecaster for a 2012 guild f-130r.

I have no knowledge of guild guitars as I have never played one but have heard mixed reactions about them in the past. Can anyone please tell me if this is a good trade or if i should pass on it and find something else.

Thanks

Dave

value wise the American special Telecaster costs $900, while the Guild-F130R costs $750

But if you try the Guild and love it it would be worth it, I guess.

Its not so much the cost that im concerned with but the quality of the instrument. I don't play the tele much and really need a good acoustic.

Guild F130r worth about $700 used. Guild are very good guitars. If you have played it and liked it I would go for it. Guild would be my choice after Martin. Guild is owned by Fender.

If their acoustics are anything like their electrics, get it.

Old vintage Guild , yes . Guild from Fender .....I don't know .

In modern guitar, I would buy other than Fender/ Guild

I tend to agree.

All the Top names still make wonderful guitars at the top of their lines. Where they vary considerably is in their mid-priced instruments.

These are often made offshore, often use laminates, and in general don't quite live up to the distinguished name on their headstocks, especially for their asking prices.

My Martin DC-1E was their last mid-priced instrument made in Nazareth, all solid woods, and it plays great ! It met it's pricepoint by using a Stratabond neck, which while not having the 'prestige' of a Mahogany neck, nevertheless is functionally just as good, possibly even better. This guitar was dropped after 3 years because it was costing Martin more to produce than they were selling for.

The guitar slotted into their line as a replacement uses laminates and is made in Mexico. It doesn't play or sound anywhere as good.

My experience with Guild guitars is somewhat limited, but my Git teacher uses one which sounds and plays fantastic... but it's a dozen years old. Does the same quality exist in those they're producing today? I just don't know.

Play it and see for yourself. Others have already given you the value range between your Tele and this acoustic, and if you like the trade, go for it. But fifty or a hundred bucks either way shouldn't stand between you and a guitar you like and need.

Good Luck !

cheers!

If you are talking American made Guild guitars I would say yes. Off shore may be another story. Just my opinion but I've played both. I have a 1985 guild and I played a new one not long ago and it was very nice. :)
