I've liked Nelly since his takeover way back when. A St. Louis native he values his home base. Here he is sharing cool with some country music artists:

No I did

it's on page 5 in response to the assertion that Rap lacks melody.

If you can't hear the melody here, you need ear training.

While there maybe no place for rap in a guitar forum ; there seems to be a place for guitar in rap. You won't find it on the US mainstream, but scour the backstreets of South london and you may run across my "wicked stepson"

Rap is not music. How about singing instead of screaming into the mic. If,as some say, it is music,it's not very good music. My 5 year old nephew could do the guitar work on many of the rap "songs".

How about some 90's Canadian rap featuring none other than Tom Green?

Rappers don't scream, they flow lyrically.
Death metal singers scream.

I remember reading somewhere that RHCP helped with lyrics as well. Trying to help a young act get started, then Ozzy put CT on his tour and they lasted 4 shows and were boo'd off the stage at each show. Rough crowds

I'm glad that someone as respected as Jerry Garcia has echoed what I've been saying for years-ever since rap came to be.Rap is more like the beat poetry that was popular on the Greenwich Village scene and in other popular Bohemian areas of major cities in the late 50s and early 60s.A person would recite his poetic compositions to the beat of bongos that were played as he spoke. The fact that they use often pirated and sampled snippets of songs of bona fide musicians still doesn't help classify rap as music because the people who perform it are rarely qualified to be called musicians by any stretch of the imagination.

One time I bore witness to someone listening to a Rap …song? and heard Rush sampled in there. After throwing up in my mouth a little and clearing up my thoughts, I mentioned to this and the feller had no idea who Rush was. I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised but it certainly made me wonder how many of the real artists that are sampled are even aware.
