Suppose you look at this from another angle...for instance, say you're out on the road giggin' in roadhouses, pubs and dives for about $50/gig after expenses.

Some hip-hop manager raps (pun intended!) on your door (or hits you up on the phone) and offers you $200K to do a 10 month tour - would you take it or not?

Well.. :?:

I've seen live rap shows that are backed by a full band. If it wasn't music then non of that would be necessary.

By that definition, David Copperfield and circus horses are musicians too.

You're picking at straws. Many rap songs have riffs and melodies, even if it's just a rhythmic single note, it's still music.

Here's one of the best rap songs ever written. I see guitars, drums, horns... you're really gonna sit there and tell us that this is not music? Music starts at 40 seconds in.

Wierd Al is a smile, the rest of it is annoying talking over fun riffs smooth hooks and some clever syncopated rhymes. After a minute or so the parlor trick gets boring.

It's a tad embarassing, but I did try my hand at flowin and recorded some tracks with my bro way back in another life. It's not exactly rap but here's a couple samples, try not to laugh too hard
