I grudgingly accepted LotR to be a decent movie. My beef with it was the fact its a movie based off a book, which IMO is never a good thing, because it removes part of the power of the book by imposing premade imagery. Previous to the film whoever read the book would get a totally unique picture from their imagination, but now if someone reads the book they're instantly going to start off with what hte movies show, if you understand me.

Unfortunately, this will ever be the case when turning a book into a movie. The best series at recreating the original books is Harry Potter (except where changes in director changed the scenery and Dumbledore needed to be replaced) - and that's because the author had a big say in the production.

I don't know. I read LotR after the first movie and the imagery may not fit everyone's imagery but it is well considered. This wasn't a simple task - we're talking about a book that is voluminous (in three volumes) and actually takes place over many, many years (something like 80+ iirc). Just like Star Trek employed warp drive and transporters to 'expediate' the action, Jackson compressed the time scale to shorten the movie to *only* 12 hours!

no, the new Indiana Jones was good

the stupidest movies i've ever seen would be any "si-fi orignal" movies

the si-fi channel makes a new "movie" evey month, they are all VERY... cheesy...

the only good show they put on there anymore is Star Trek Enterprise...

Since the question is, "what is the stupidest movie you've ever seen?"
I'll say Napoleon Dynamite.
It may very well be the worst as well.

I don't think it was very stupid. The TS question to me seems more like a 'stupid' as in 'bad' but I'd describe Napoleon Dynamite as purposefully tedious. Not a bad film, well crafted, just misunderstood.

Or if you're talking 'stupid' as in '(un)funny' then something like Spaceballs would get my vote.

No, Napoleon Dynamite IS the stupidest movie I've ever seen.

(Although I agree the Spaceballs was unfunny. I think I sort of laughed at one joke--and that was in the commercial. Fortunately I saw it on video, and somebody else paid for the rental.)

I have to agree with Napolean Dynomite although for some reason My daughter thought it was the best. She thinks that Rocky Horror Picture Show is the stupidest movie ever.

Broke Back Mountian. I didnt watch it, but i am assuming!

Why are you assuming it's a stupid movie if you've never seen it? It won or was nominated for several awards world-wide. I've never seen it either, but from what I've read, it's anything but stupid.

Umm welll my wife watched it and thought is was bad, so if she thinks it is bad so do i, and the premise of 2 !@$ cowboys on a mountian is pretty dumb

I'm going to get a lot of flak for this:

Pirates of the Carribean 3.

I left the theater feeling as if they took my money, smiled, and then horked a monster loogie in my face.

When I saw it a few years ago, I thought the Hulk was extremely stupid. And guess what, they're making another Hulk movie now. How stupid is that!?

Kung Pow...just plain stupid. It was kinda funny at first, but after you see it, you feel its one of those things you'd rather see on a television commercial and chuckle about.
