Yo! IMHO the general appearance of these posts is so obvious that it would be our collective achievement NOT to open these even for the purpose of logging in a protest. At most, I click on the author and put it on my foe list.

I just ignore them. I'm hoping it's just a temporary distraction to see.

as previously stated, the only thing more annoying than the SPAM posts is the threads started to discuss the SPAM posts.

Someone should go into the SPAM and report it. So the Spammer's user name can be blocked. I think persons should never respond with a post to the spam thread. As if the spammer is going to be back to read it!!!! THIMK people.

Sometimes it's hard to "thimk" properly.

I'm advocating avoid opening the post at all.

I don't think that's going to happen, given the numbers using the forum. Best to report the post as spam and have it removed.
Never, ever respond.

Hi Doc. I'm not sure I understand the reason behind what you are suggesting. Brad has asked that we don't respond to spam and that we report it. Presumably because this alerts the good folks over at Fender and they dispatch the cleaning crews. If we don't open the post and report it, how does this help its removal?

    Cheers!

If there are already a half dozen looks at a spam post, then it's probably already been reported and I don't open the post.

If it's a brand new post, then I'll open it and report it.

Opening the post satisfies the purpose of the spammer. It is, in effect, reading it. He needs to find another way to flag the post without opening it. I'm advocating ignoring them completely until such time as viable alternative is found.

I'm in favour of Fender using an encryption tool to stop them in the first place. Otherwise, yes it is much cheaper getting us to report them.

This forum is a sitting duck for spammers and the like.

Does it take a person to register and post spam or can it be automated?

I've forgotten the procedure.

Hey Orville,

They're automatic, make no mistake- they aren't people sitting up at all hours annoying us. These are programmes that will sign up to forums automatically and post stupid stuff that we see. I've even seen some posts that actually look like a response to a question and then making a reference to a link to download or view certain websites..

Encryption tools will just stop them from signing up and getting into the forum by using an image of a sequence of words or numbers that these programmes cannot read. Thats why I think the mods should look into using it.

for example:
