On this date in 1970 we lost the most brilliant, innotative, flamboyant virtuoso of the electric guitar who ever lived.Jimi Hendrix died suddenly and unexpectedly in London and the whole musical world was in deep despair, as even such iconic guitarists as Eric Clapton,Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page stood in awe of him and in Eric's case loved and respected him dearly.I too held Jimi in higher regard than just about any other person on the face of the earth,as it was Jimi who inspired me to throw myself into a fanatical practice regimen that often kept me at the guitar for over 10 hours a day and this obsessive routine kept up for years.I spent countless hours trying to decipher what he was doing to create some of the wild and wonderful sounds that he could coax from a guitar and often I would succeed after many many hours of grueling experimentation etc. Thankyou Jimi for being such an inspiration and a mentor to me for so long....Sing on Brother.

The original of the "27 club". Can you imagine how much greater he would be today? At 27 years old he was nowhere near his full potential.

A sad day indeed, if anyone wants to talk about Hendrix I suggest MichaelAllsup.com. He is 3 Dog Nights original guitarist who had the priveledge of playing with Jimmie before he hooked up With Cory Wells,Danny Hutton, and Chuck Negron to form his group. It is an interactive website- leave him a question and he will answer when he has some down time as they are still touring. I am sure he is in mourning today with the rest of us...Namaste. As Alanis Morissette said best in her song Thank U "how 'bout not equating death with stopping". Touche Alanis!!!

Why is there a righthanded Strat on his headstone?

He played it restrung left handed. For historical accuracy, they should have flipped it around.

It was just another thing that made him unique.

A sad day indeed. I happen to be in Seattle for a few weeks and will be going to see his exhibit at the local museum.

The thing that amazes me is they keep putting out "new" material from him, even though he's been gone this long. Are they actually just recycling previous releases, or is there actually that much material he recorded? I imagine that well has to run dry sooner or later, unless he was like Prince and practically lived in a recording studio almost 24 hours a day.

Either way, it's tragic what happened to him. Who knows where he could have gone musically?

I saw him in July of 1970, and couldn't believe he was gone a short time later. RIP JMH
