I am thinking of putting the guts of a Classic Vibe 50s Stratocaster into a 2008 MIM strat. I currently has a CS 69 in the Bridge, A SSL-1 in middle, and a SCN in neck. I Think it sounds good, but I can't ever seem to stop messing around! I have all the guts from a Squire CV 50, would it be worth the switch from what I already have?? My First post, Just looking for opinions not smart $@! comments. Thank you very much. I can also be reached at drc723@gmail.com. I really hope someone has an opinion?

There's something to be said for upgrading your axe for sure, but at some point you might want to just start putting all the money you'd spend on getting new stuff for a cut-rate guitar into a cookie jar and eventually go all the way and buy something super solid.

My buddy just got himself a John Mayer Strat and dang if that thing doesn't have me wanting to save for one of my own.

Mind you, I've put Don Mare handwound http://www.buckcannon.com/pickups and a Callaham bridge assembly and tremolo block into my MIM and sometimes I still favor it over my 2012 American Standard with Custom Shop Fat 50s and that thing rules!

I definitely learned a lot modding that MIM, but let me tell you, that $1.5K John Mayer Strat is sweet.

Hope that helps.

Or save up to buy a top shelf amplifier.

Thanx, I understand about saving for my "dream Guitar" but I got really lucky with this MIM. It is perfect!! I guess my question should of been: What do you think of the combo of a classic 69 in the bridge, an SSL-1 in the middle, and A SCN vintage noiseless in the neck. It sounds great to me and I know that is what matters, but I guess I would like other opinions of this combo. I am just always looking for Ideas from others that know more than I, and as far as amps, I have my dream amps, The newest Fender mustang that I "hardwired" A laptop into so all I do is turn the amp on and open the screen! They should have designed them like mine! Maybe I will write a letter?1? :). Also have a vox AC30, so I am good on amps. Opinions on pickup configs? I play very spacey Pink Floyd type music. Again thank you for your responses and thanx for reading!! I look forward to a reply or 2.......

IMHO....if you want Pink Floydie....invest in a EMG DG20 prewired pickguard for the MIM. I had one in an Am Std once. You'll have the Red Strat's electronics dimed there. The Custom Shop products section will give you the pickup configuration for The Black Strat. There are also .com's out there which will sell you a Black Strat prewired pickguard. I don't see the advantage of dropping the electronics from a Squier guitar into a Fender MIM. I expect you've also visited www.gilmourish.com. They've done a grand stand job of providing his guitar playing audience tone questers, with all the info they need to find the holy grail.
