Niki is right with his "Bands are like Buses" quote.
I was waiting at the bus stop for 3 years until one came my way. Now there is a second bus right behind.
I've been jamming almost once a week now with 2 different bands. One is putting a setlist together to gig, and the other is just for fun right now. Either way, I'm having a blast!

(Edit. I was a bit harsh in my first version of this post) I went and listened to the video again and you aren't the one who's lacking in performance, but hey I guess they are all allowed to improve but you weren't. Snakes.

The best thing to do is get your own band and rock it, so when you bump in to them they feel crap about it.

That's already in the works. :) Yeah their egos were too big to recognize that it was a band issue, not a single member issue.

10 days later and still proud of you Juan. Another band is on the horizon whether it is one that you start or one that you join. The hardest part is behind you now so get ready to rock! :D

Nothing worse than politics and egos in a band. Tell you what, there are guitarists everywhere learning new things, it doesn't matter at all what your skill level is at or how long you've been playing. Everyone things someone is better than the other guy.

The best all guitarists can do is practice. However, you ain't doing too badly!!

However, best thing to do is soldier on and keep at it.

Like Nik said, no-one is playing Wembly stadium and no-one gets rich. If the wanted someone better or had someone lined up, chances are that the band only want someone to polarise them and make them think they are better. They think they have a shot at the big time by adding an ego who thinks he is the sh1t. They probably take themselves too seriously. But truth be told, give them a short while and that new guy will probably be in another band, because bands are like relationships when you're young. Easy come and easy go.

Carry on mate.

Hi 1neeto, congratulations on your first gig!

As for them dumping you, I think you are better off without them. Rock music is about energy and passion. I watched the video several times, I think you did fine, and you definitely rocked the stage harder than any of them. In fact, I thought the singer had a nice voice, but she was almost completely lifeless and devoid of passion.

I have a couple of friends that I jam with now and then, but I've never actually been in a band (not counting my jr. high school band), but people I know who have been in rock bands tell me its all about the chemistry. Perseverance counts for a lot in life, so keep doing what you are passionate about.

Congrats brother, keep rocking and never stop. It'll keep you young. Look at Keith Richards, he's 4000 years old and only looks 175! lol  . No, for real, Congratulations!

Dude, that's so rock n roll!! 8)

Seriously though and I'm being honest here- if that band wanted to do well, they should've fired the singer instead. My cat can sing better than that.

I hope that wasn't too harsh.

Thanks again guys. That's what pains me the most, I thought we had good chemistry and I considered them friends. It just sucks that I was never told of those issues, I was just fired and told about it afterwards. Never saw it coming.

As for the stage presence thing, my friends told me that that's how they behaved during the whole show. I was the only one who seemed to be enjoying myself up there. I brought this up and they promised to bring it next gig and same thing happened. And I was the problem? I'm glad I was fired now and not later.

Most important thing with respect to 'chemistry' is that you all are pursing the same goals with respect to your music. You can't be compatible if the activity is a recreational change of pace for you, and the rest are pursing delusions of grandeur about rock star status. Keep searching for the right mix.

I was driven enough to take it all the way but I was also realistic about it. Funny thing is that I was always the one pushing that we should do originals. Can't "make it" by playing covers.

We'll I am sure you can make it by playing covers, but it is a hard road to take and if you think original music was a hard industry to make it in, my guess is that cover bands are much harder to get famous in. But cover bands tend to get way more paying gigs.

This is really an 'apples and oranges' situation. If you're doing music for the love of it, and would like to cash in on what's left of the live music scene, and a public willing to pay to hear what's current, by all means, go for it. It will take a lot of gear, learning and rehearsal time, because covering contemporary sounds and diming them to the nines, is what people want. They're not likely to be interested in your arrangement of " In Memory of Elizabeth Reed". They'll want you to sound like the ABB. On the other hand, if you're doing music for the love it it, which includes writing original material, that's where the money is going to be made, if your 'stuff' both material and stage wise is a product the public is interested in buying. It will take a lot gear, rehearsal time, traveling, and workng for next to nothing at first, in the hopes of building a following. You, personally, may be too old for the 'youth' market which is where most new talent is usually born of.

Been there, done that, very long distance ago. No rock star, but it was great fun.

Mi dos centavos. Suerte!!

When I say make it, I mean the whole rockstar dream thing. Covers won't get you there. Covers might get you weekly gigs and a decent local following, but not much more. You want that record deal and tour the world, you better play your own stuff.
