A bit under two years ago I bought me a Squier starter guitar pack. That impulse buy started a great journey that I only regret not starting sooner. I made a self-goal to be able to perform in two years. A few months ago I joined a band and we have been working very hard getting a setlist together, and also building a great friendship. Well this past saturday I finally reached my biggest milestone ever since I nailed my first open G chord shape. It's monday and I'm still on a high, and there's no slowing down, we have another gig this thursday!

Anyway here's a video of our first song and some pics of that great moment. And of course I had to play my black strat and had the tele for backup. :) I'm to the far right.

Yeah I am glad you enjoy the same music I do, and well done on getting to being confident on gigging. I find that being onstage for a Set goes far too quickly and it makes me really want to get to the next gig FAST!

I really thought I was gonna be a nervous wreck and just freeze on the stage. Had a lot of my friends show up (which they happen to be musicians themselves) and it made everything go so much easier. I had a bit of a "holy crap this is happening" moment when I first hit that first chord, but then afterwards I was in the zone just totally enjoying the moment. It also helps that the stage lights are so bright, you really can't see the audience LOL!

And holy crap that setlist went by so fast! Before I knew it we were done and hoping for that encore. :)

I only picked up the Guitar in 2008. Fast forward three years and I was where you are now. I played my first two gigs in the same night in pubs facing each other. It was the most fantastic and terrifying night. I didn't know if I would freeze or not but after getting through the first song, my nerves were fine. After that, we played at least one gig a week as news about us got around.

There is no feeling like the feeling of playing music you love to a live audience. :)

Sure gets the endorphins going, doesn't it? Becomes a piece of cake after awhile. BTW: I have friend who lives on Maui. Also, 'Fleetwood Mac' signed and framed Strat I purchased at 'Celebrites' at Wailea when I was there 10 years ago next month.

I don't remember my first gig (I was 16) so much as I do the first gig after I came back in 1994 from a 10-year hiatus from the stage. On that "first gig" I was shaking! But like riding a bike, it all came back fast and to this day I am out there 6-8 times a month, most of the time solo.

Congrats on taking the plunge, on sticking with it through that very tough first year of learning and getting to the point where it's YOU up on that stage - there is nothing like it!

And it will only get better!

That's a cool story indeed, two years to the stage is a great accomplishment.

Rock on brother!

I remember my first performance when I was 14. Both of my parents were there in the crowd. I remember my knees shaking and wondering if I would continue to be able to stand. Within an minute the knees stopped shaking and I started liking it. After the applause of the first song I was hooked. I come alive on stage.

Welcome to show business.
