Just picked up a guitar that had one locking tuner head missing. Anyone know where I can order one?

Those look like Sperzel tuners.

Here is the Sperzel web site. Perhaps they can steer you in the right direction. Maybe they can even help you directly.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Thank you. Do you know what this specific part is called? Or would I have to order an entire tuner?

I would contact Sperzel and send them the photo you posted here and see what they say. They are VERY proud of their tuners, especially their build quality, so see what they are willing to do.

Hmm. I hope so, but I'm not sure.

Superficially they do look like Sperzel locking thumbwheels. But the casing doesn't look the same as the ones on Sperzel machineheads - at least the ones they've been making for many a long year now.

Here's what I mean: Sperzel casings have a large squarish section beyond the thumbwheel that the tuner shaft runs into, the bit with their brand name written on it:

Whereas the ones in sunshy's photo are more truncated and don't carry the Sperzel logo. And they don't have the capped hole in the middle of the thumbwheel. They look much more like these cheapo no-name imitation locking tuners (though not identical, I know):

I guess it could be that sunshy's guitar has much older Sperzels, built to some earlier spec. If so, Bob Sperzel will know and may be able to supply a replacement part.

However, sunshy, if Sperzel deny knowledge of the tuners on your guitar then it's a case of bad news - good news. The bad news is that I think you are very unlikely to get a replacement thumbwheel anywhere. It's not the sort of part budget makers supply. The good news is that if yours are indeed the budget machines then you can buy a whole new set for about $35.00, which doesn't hurt much.

Unless you decide to go for a new set of genuine Sperzels, that is. That would be a fine option: I have Sperzel lockers on a couple of guitars and can highly recommend them. Great pegs.

Good luck - C
