It almost seems like I should be following Mr. Brown Pants down a dark alley with a fistful of $20s... !!

But, I just couldn't resist....

"My name is LMN... and I'm a Gasoholic... !!"

A new NOS 60th Anniversary 'Telebration' Empress Telecaster in Vintage White (1 of 500) w/ case & candy for less than the price of a new MIM !! 8)

I have been looking for a Maple Fretboard Tele for a while and came across several of these Empress Telecasters - Used: >$950, NOS: >$1300 . My criteria were: USA-made (though I did look at some MIMs too), Maple Fretboard, Vintage Body - no Belly Cut, solid color, 3-saddle bridge and 22 Frets.

This one came from a nationwide (software) CL search where the AF Dealer had a standard price + OBO. Feeling slightly mischievous, I shot him a ridiculously low-ball offer never expecting a reply. But, he responded within 10 min. and said add $20 and it's mine (which of course I did) !! :D

It was just delivered 30 min. ago. It is not a demo - came sealed in the Factory Box. I already pulled the plastic off the PG, played a couple scales and it's fantastic ! Not a scratch. Action may be a bit high, I'll fool with it in a couple days. Today is my anniversary, and I'm busy getting dinner ready for tonite.

Mrs. LMN was totally casual & cool saying: "Well... that's your Anniversary present..."

These are the CL pics, but I'll get some better ones of the 'whole family' up in a couple days.

This is the last one for quite a while, I swear !

I don't expect you to believe me (not sure I do myself), but I'm out of space, so a vacancy must occur before any new hardware can be added.

Cheers!

That is one SWELL Telecaster!

I'm pretty sure the 12 steps will work for GAS (gear acquisition syndrome), but not until after a Gasoholic hits rock bottom, meaning you are not just looking but are actually BUYING stuff on eBay. So I've adapted the 12 Steps to Gasoholics. So, whether you wanted it or not here comes....

The 12 GA Steps

1. Admit we were powerless over GAS - that our lives had become unmanageable. Our closets overstuffed and one rented climate controlled storage locker inadequate.

2. Came to believe that only a more powerful amp greater than a Showman could restore us to the tone we need.

3. Made a decision to turn the perpetually unplayed axes in our collections over to a vintage consignment dealer.

4. Made a searching and fearless inventory of our Stratocasters.

5. Admitted to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of the duds in our stable.

6. Were entirely ready to have Gord Miller remove all these defects of finish in the CBS era stuff.

7. Humbly ask Gordo to do a rush job this time instead of the usual 6 to 8 month turnaround.

8. Made a list of all guitarists, bassists and drummers we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.

9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others...or we owed them money.

10. Continued to take inventory and when we were bought a stupid pedal we didn't need and can't possibly use, promptly admitted it.

11. Sought through meditation to improve our conscious use of the guitars, amps, pedals, strings, necks, bodies, bridges, tuners, mics, stands and recording equipment we already have....all the while praying for that Mary Kay Stratocaster to come along.

12. Having had an awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to other Gasoholics and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Nice score!

I don't own one but have played one and the empress wood is very lightweight, but also very resonant.

Congrats!!!

12 steps, 24 steps, 96 steps.....it doesn't matter.

There's no cure for "GAS", nugget.

Nice Tele!

Congrats on getting the classic Tele colour scheme, back in the 60s it seems that over 95% of Teles were blonde with the ashtray and there is hardly a guitar that comes close to that colour combination,so you are one lucky guy.

I have terminal GAS too but I have given in and let it win because I was getting worse than ever with my cravings for more gear and fighting it was frustrating and futile so I let it have its way with me so to speak.

You gotta take it one step at a time! I'm six years "sober."

(I hope that's right.)

Thanks !

I weighed it on an Intercomp SWI-6K Automotive Scale, on loan from a friend for my Auto-X car - the type used for Race Car 4-corner setups ($3,500 retail). It is super-accurate with an accuracy of 0.1% - 0.016oz./lb.

It weighed-in at 5lbs. 9.2oz. exactly, each of the three times I weighed it (after calibrating/zeroeing out the scale between each weighing)

I had read that light guitars often have issues with resonance and sustain, and this concerned me. But the advantage to Empress wood is the wood fiber stucture which gives it the characteristics of a more dense Tonewood w/o the weight.

This guitar sounds amazing and has noticably better sustain than my Alder-bodied/Rosewood '99 'Nashville' Deluxe weighing-in at 7lbs. 7.2oz.

This guitar is a Keeper !

cheers!

Congrats, I'd love a light weight tele, and especially the Emperess.

Nice try BrotherDave, but I think this step should be:

9 Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so may be a breach of copyright or may result in legal action being brought against myself or an innocent third party:-)
