I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing 12 years ago today and the people I was with at the time it started and for the rest of the day. I guess I always will.

Good Morning America was on at the 911 center where I work playing on a TV in the corner. Then it began with Charlie Gibson calling the first Tower strike a terrible aviation accident and they cut to a video feed of Tower 2. And it all went downhill from there.

The people I worked with that day are no longer working here but I bet they are thinking about that day too.

I'm back in that same room today and thinking about all the public servants and citizens that died on what would become the darkest day in the history of fire fighting and law enforcement in the USA. I think too of the heroic passengers on United 93. Some people may not remember that no remains were ever found of anyone on flight 93. There were no funerals or burials. They were just completely gone. Maybe the White House or Capitol were the targets. So the passengers and crew are heroes.

All this terrorism stuff in the name of religion is so stupid. It just wastes peoples' lives. I don't understand the mindset that could do such things or how much hate they must have had for their fellow man. It has boggled my mind ever since. I just don't understand that kind of hate.

This year I was stunned by the incredible further stupidity of an American Muslim group planning a "Million Muslim March on Washington, DC" for today, September 11th. The group behind it is the AMPAC (American Muslim Political Action Committee.) This was incredibly insensitive to say the least. I haven't heard much about it until the past few days but apparently they've been planning it a very long time.

I was just completing a patient visit in an office building on the corner of 6th Avenue and Grand Street when the aircraft flew directly overhead. Thought it was a low-flying helicopter, it sounded so close. We were 10 blocks north of the site with windows on three sides, thus we could see south. As the events unfolded, we watched as the South Tower exploded. Our building was eventually evacuated. I made my way over to NYU Medical Center in case I might be needed for triage. Unfortunately it never came to pass.

Of all the things I've seen circling the Sun 59+ times, from Elvis on Ed Sullivan, to Ruby jumping from the crowd to assassinate Oswald, to Neil & Buzz kicking up Moon Dust, to the Immaculate Reception, the attack on the Twin Towers was the most surreal thing I'd ever seen.

Mrs. LMN was in St. Louis running the WGC American Express Championship, it was (is) our Wedding Anniversary and I got up and was having my morning coffee in front of CNN.

The announcer spoke of an accident involving the North Tower and a commercial aircraft. I looked up to see the minutes-old tape of the 757 making last-minute corrections into the building. My training & experience told me this was a deliberate flightpath as my Brain shouted "What the F*CK..!! ?? That was no accident !!"

With the LIVE image on the screen, 17 minutes later I see something move across the screen from left to right as the 2nd 757 slams into the South Tower !

I immediate call Mrs. LMN and after 2 attempts get through. I tell her to get to a TV in one of the Hospitality tents to see what's going on. She says: "Yea, it's weird, a Security Team just drove onto the course and took Tiger away..."

She had a team of 17 with her so I tell her to immediately reserve 2 15-passenger Vans because the airports will surely be closed and to start packing up the tourney which was sure to be cancelled.

She got the last 2 Vans Avis had and several hours later told me her team was driving back to Mpls and would arrive the next day.

That night, I was haunted by the sound of a lone F-16 flying lazy BARCAP orbits over the Twin Cities. In the nightime silence, I could trace it's path from the extreme North of the city, out West over Minnetonka, then South to Farmington, East to Hastings before completing the Loop West again to MSP Int'l. (2.5 mi. from my home). I will never forget !

Condolences and remembrances to those who lost Loved Ones in NYC and Salutes to the hundreds of dedicated professionals who risked (and in some instances paid) the Ultimate Price to protect and rescue the victims !

NEVER FORGET !

cheers!

I was at an audio post facility on 27th and Broadway where I worked. We shut down and was making my way on foot to Union Square to catch the L train back to Brooklyn and thus watching the towers from 6th ave as I made my way downtown. The pandamonium was surreal. Police SUVs were screetching to a halt and piling in doctors from one corner to rush them down to help. By the time I got to union square the first tower had collapsed. I remember the people making it to Union Square from downtown completely covered in dust and soot, some injured and bloodied. Like ghosts. All with the same look on their face and the silence. The following few days I volunteered with the Red Cross and because I was a local, was asked to help one of the drivers of the ERV navigate his truck into ground Zero to deliver his supplies. I’ll never forget how awful that scene was at that close proximity and can’t nearly imagine what it was like for those who right there in all the chaos.

Prayers to all affected by that terrible day and God bless the soldiers who serve our country. God bless the USA.

My 4th grade class just got back to the classroom after P.E. I think, and some kids were excited that the TV was on, but I saw the burning tower first thing and eventually everyone shut up and started watching. Of course, it was some sort of horrible accident. That is, until we saw in the background, behind the reporter, the other jet slam into the south tower. Everyone was just silent, the teacher was already in tears, and I remember thinking to myself "this is no accident". I was 10 years old, almost 22 now, and I remember it like it was yesterday. Everyone eventually got sent home, and I watched the news with my parents the rest of that day. I don't care if it's 12 years or 30 years after 9/11, I will always remember and take the time to reflect on that great tragedy. My heart goes out to those affected, and I will always be grateful for the heroes of that day, and the heroes who are still fighting as a result.

It's strange to think that my country has been at war for over half my lifetime.

Let me rephrase. We've been involved in the SAME conflict for over half my life. But yes, I suppose every generation has the same feelings on that matter. It's a hard pill to swallow, when you look back and see just how many wars we've been involved in. Everyone born since 1900 has been alive during at least two major wars. You were born during WWII, and lived through Korea and Vietnam, while I was born during the Gulf War (though I suppose that wouldn't be considered "major") and spent my entire adolescence in the so-called War on Terror.

But I don't want to derail this thread, especially since it is one of remembrance and tribute. So, I'll just say this: I may not like the current government, and though I get frustrated with our elected officials, I love this wonderful, strong, inventive nation in which I live, and I wouldn't choose it over any place in the world. Our politicians don't represent us (like they're supposed to), and our government does not determine what our nation is. The strength of the United States of America lies in its people, and the toils we go through to make it a better place.

I am and will forever remain a patriot, for better or worse. God bless America, and may the sacrifices of our military members and our heroes in tragic times never, ever be forgotten.

-Jake :P

I took, and swallowed, the red pill.

9/11 is clearly a terrible day in modern American history. My prayers go out to those who have suffered and continue to suffer from the ramifications of that day and the many innocent lives lost that day. :(

Both strange and sad. My whole life of 59 years it seems we are going from one shooting war, skirmish, incident or military action to another with brief periods of ease between them or sometimes they overlap. The USA currently has major military actions ongoing in two nations that I know about and is on the brink of initiating a third.

If you count the long running Cold War in the mix, then essentially 90% or more of my life from birth to age 59 has been lived during one war or another or even simultaneous wars in multiple countries.

For those not familiar with the red pill reference, it is not a recreational drug reference, but a way of saying that Modwiz has chosen reality.

(It also implies that Modwiz will be returning to Zion shortly to aid in the coming battle with the machines. He will from time to time take a levitation ship named the Nebuchadnezzar in order to return at his convenience to broadcast range of the Matrix so he can voluntarily battle Agents. He will get to meet with The Oracle, who of course makes good smelling cookies. Ummmm, ummmm, smell good don't they?)

Ixnay on the Zion, levitation and Oracle. Much of that movie is pure BS. However, they did throw a gold nugget or two into the pile of steaming poo they served up in typical hollywood entertainment fashion.

Sept. 11th is my mom's birthday. Also, for several years before that day I had been experiencing some weird number thing, where the numbers 911 were always popping up everywhere- anyone ever have anything like that? maybe I'm crazy, but I swear to you all - because of that weird stuff happening for a long time before 9-11, I had turned to my friend Joseph, who was sitting behind me in English 3 that morning, and said "it's gonna be a weird day.... mark my words." just...you know, expecting some weird random deja vu and whatever, because of my whole 911 numbers thing, but then like 30 minutes later another teacher burst into the room and yelled" Boys and girls, we're under terrorist attack!" now, half asleep and in a daze like i was (we were studying puritan poetry...I'll never forget it now) I thought she meant the school, and for a split second started to go for the window. I was thinking RED DAWN. then she turned on the tv, we saw maybe 30 seconds of the "OH my god, awful accident" footage everyone else saw, and then the second plane hit on live television. what a f----d up thing to see..... I'm not sure why we even bothered changing classes that day, all we did was move to the other classes, sit in our desks and watch tv. all day. On a lighter note, the look on Joseph's face will never leave me. It took me days to convince him I had no connections to Osama.
ZZDoc, man....that's heavy . I cant imagine what that must've been like.
I didn't have any direct connections to anyone up there, but my thoughts and prayers go out to each and every one of them and everyone that lost someone. I'm with Dave, this is all such nonsense. People need to wake up and smell the coffee that is REALITY. Quit living for such crazy bullshit. Extremism, in any direction, is a bad thing.

The nature of the target and location makes it easy to understand why it was chosen. For months, as it seemed, every one spoken to was either one or two degrees of separation from someone at Ground Zero. My location, for example, was a vantage point for us to observe what was happening, including the poor souls jumping to their tragic ends. My cousin's wife was waiting on an elevator in the lobby when the doors opened to the sight of burning jet fuel. Over twenty patients of ours who were members of the building services union died there. We had to supply dental records to help identify them. I didn't see the buildings come down because I was on my way to the NYU Medical Center on foot. When I arrived at my department chairman's office they were watching the video replays of the event. Ironically, I was seated at a table next to Lisa Klinghoffer...her dad was the wheelchair bound passenger on the cruise ship Achille Lauro, whom terrorists who had seized the ship, had thrown overboard. The area I was in, usually active with both pedestrian and automobile traffic around 8:00 pm, was deserted. I walked the 2 miles across town to Penn Station because there was no bus or taxi service. By that time rail service out of midtown had resumed. The city was closed below 14th Street for a week, and the office had an unexpected work hiatus. The 'smell' coming from the ravaged site didn't leave the air we breathed for months afterwards.

By the tone of your thread title and post content, it sounds like you're one of those that get a rise out of death, carnage, blood, gore, chaos, confusion the whole nine yards! Tell me you're not one of those people. :|

I hear ya Brother Dave.
I'm not a Marxist or a Communist or anything but:
It really IS the opiate of the masses. Sad really.
Embarrassed to say that The Spanish Inquisition or Crusades probably weren't exactly part of the agenda either.

Hopefully, we can all get re-strung, set-up, and tuned-in
and play a rockin' song with all our different rigs.
