Recently purchased an American Standard Strat and a Tele. Both came with the Molded SKB cases. When the guitars are stored in their case, does it make any difference if the cases are kept on their side, or should they be stored with the cases flat (with the case back on the floor).

I don't think it makes a difference. I've even stored mine vertically for months on end with no adverse effects.

If it's a good case, it shouldn't matter. I store my cases both ways, depending on the space available...

Obviously, if you have a number of guitars, it's a lot easier to get at them if they're stored vertically.

Come on now, Arjay, I know those cases are empty. Your guitars are all hanging on that fancy wall of yours!

Actually, that pic was taken before the music room was complete. Those cases were "fully loaded" back then.

Always lay them flat on the floor. I think it evens out the weight of the bass. There's probably more pressure on the neck when you stand the bass upright..with gravity coming into play.

I know that Alain stores 'em like this and so do I. He has quite an impressive array of instruments.

I store them horizontally usually. As already mentioned, whatever way should be fine.

I have stored my guitars in the cases in every configuration possible-I have even haveno had some inadvertently stored vertically neck-down in the case by others who were "helping" me and not noticed for months later in some cases and with no ill effects. Most of my guitars are now stored vertically in their cases and some are even suspended by their necks in covered stands with no ill effects.I always put silica packages in the cases because when I live within 100 yds. of the North Atlantic, the humidity is always very high and can play havoc with guitars.
