It was a good piece. The trend to produce collectors items means they really aren't for players.

Hi all,

Here's some long-awaited eye candy to get you out of your long-weekend slump! The Fender Custom Shop has resurrected the Rosewood Telecaster. Back in the early 1960s, we introduced limited hand-selected rosewood Fender guitars that became highly coveted collector's items. Used by George Harrison during the Beatles' famous Apple Studio rooftop concert, this recreated Tele is sure to pique the interest of vintage enthusiasts everywhere looking for a unique and historic instrument.

The Limited Rosewood Telecaster features the namesake rosewood body and a early ’60s "oval C" shaped rosewood neck with vintage-style hardware, but is also decked out with modern features such as a 9.5'' fingerboard radius and versatile Twisted Tele pickups.

How does it live up to the original? Let us know!

There's no rosewood telecaster in the early 1960's.

This model didn't came into surface until 1969. The headstock logo is not period-correct IMO. :|

Original rosewood telecasters came with a gold transitional decal.

How about an exact replica of "Rocky" to match the rosewood tele to perfection?

Both guitars would form a nice pair. :)

Furniture Guitars... who needs them...??

I've never warmed to the concept of Guitars as OBJET D'ART.

They are tools, nothing more.

I'm also not sold on the notion that exotic woods make any significant tonal difference whatever in a Solid Body Electric.

Someone who's playing is lacking, will still be found lacking, no matter how 'Good' their guitar is.

If Brad were to give me this Telecaster, I would enjoy an evening of staring at it in awe and wonder from across the room.

But, the next day, it would be on ebay with a very friendly 'Buy It Now' price designed for a quick flip.

The proceeds of which would be put to use on more practical gear. 8)

Just sayin'....

cheers!

That guitar makes me drooling...

I didn't understand about the lack of truss rod "skunk stripe"... Surely they will have separate neck and fingerboard, but is that construction like one on the 1968 maple capped necks with curved veneers?

I suspect that a significant proportion of these will sit unplayed in their cases. Or even in bank vaults.

Guitars for lawyers and dentists. Just what the world needs.

+1 !! :D

I have the vintage tuners on my Strat and my 'Nashville' Tele Deluxe and love them.

My new Telebration Empress Tele came w/ modern tuners. I'm OK with them though and the guitar is great!

But if I had a choice, I'd go vintage.

cheers!

If your a guitar player and can afford to pay for such a guitar why in the world would you not play it. There's not a guitar on gods green earth that I would not play if given the opportunity. Guitars are tools and like tools some cost more than others

Re playing "collectable" guitars: I recently read the Latest edition of Guitar Aficionado and it features an extensive interview with Paul Allen, the co-founder of Microsoft and the brains behing the Experience Music pavilion and project. He paid $1.3 million for the Woodstock Strat that Jimi played and thinks that it too should be played"under the right circumstances" and no doubt by a "deserving" guitarist and has played it himself and also let Kenny Wayne Shepherd play it as part of the Experience Hendrix Tour (although I think that Randy Hanson would've been a far better choice because of his amazing ability to "channel" Jimi's spirit and capture almost every nuance of his playing).A lot of my relics are too valuable these days for every day playing and only a bare handful of people are what I consider good enough a player and appreciative enough of the instrument's worth and historic importance,I still take them out regularly for several days to savour the beautiful uniqueness and tones that come from them. All guitars were made to be played and it is doing the instrument a great injustice and an affront to the luthier who put his/her love and talent into the crafting of it,to lock it up to be mute probably forever. I would never sell a guitar to anyone I thought would silence and imprison it or who would do modifications beyond what the factory condition was.

Hi guys! OK, so the Fender Custom shop has obviously opened their vault and discovered some more Rosewood... and that's a fine thing. As one of the more stupid Rosewood nuts on this planet, I think I might hold off on buying one just yet, because to all intents and purposes this model seems to be a repeat of the 2007 Limited Edition Rosewood.

With respect to the Fender Logo, the Silver logo used is actually correct - because this new model appears to be a "replica" of the George Harrison (prototype) Rosewood. The prototype had a 2 piece neck (no skunk stripe) and satin finish as this one does.

The slightly later "Production Model", which not only had the Gold logo, but also had the one piece "skunk stipe" neck and gloss finish.

On the timing front, George's guitar was 1968 and the production run started in 1969 through to around 1972-3.

Here's some rosewoods to whet your appetite...

My Question is for Mike Eldred. How many of these 2013 limited run custom shop rosewood telecasters will be made? I know the quality is close to the master built rosewoods other than the closet classic trim and surely the price is up there so the question is, how many should I buy? hey mike if your reading this great idea bringing this one back. let me know on the production stats. Thanks :D
