Just got done watching the Blues Brother for the umpteenth time. Why? Because it was on. (That was a question my wife asked...) And of course there are so many outstanding musicians in it. This time I actually watched it in high-def and saw something new besides noticing a few nuances of people's playing here and there...

It looks like Steve Cropper's red Tele has a P-90 in the neck position. Did Fender ever make any production models like this? Sure sounds good on his lead in Jail House Rock.

Did a search and found a few photos of it...

Just half-answered my own question. The Classic Player Tele Deluxe Black Dove has two P-90s but not one in the neck and a single coil in the bridge...

Peavey has made a signature model for him long time ago.

This guitar is no longer into production.

I've not seen a Tele set up like Cropper's (with the P-90 in the neck position and a normal Tele pickup in the bridge position) except for mine...and this isn't "factory-original"; I modified mine like this..

Regarding the BB movie, I recall reading how that came about:

"How did you get talked into the Blues Brothers job—and did it feel like the real deal versus a stage show of some sort?

It just came to me as another offer, which I initially turned down completely, pointblank. I was in the middle of mixing Robben Ford’s album and a call came in—and when I’m mixing, there’s no calls, no nothing. Well, the [receptionist] told me later that she sent it back during the session because John Belushi was on the phone. He said, “Yeah, we’re doing this thing and I need you in the band,” and I said, “I hate to disappoint you, but I’m in the middle of a project.” He said, “Well, we’re starting tomorrow. I need you to catch the next plane.” I said, “Hey man, I’m telling you I can’t do it. I won’t be there.” He kept me on the phone and kept me on the phone, and on and on and on. It seemed like an hour—it was probably only 10 or 15 minutes— and I said, “Man, I’m sorry to do this. I’ve got to go.” Robben Ford turned around and said, “Who were you talking to?” I said, “John Belushi from Saturday Night Live is putting a band together and he wants me to come up and play.” Robben said, “I’ll do it!” And I said, “No, you won’t!” [Laughs.] So, anyway, I called Jim back and said, “This is Cropper. I can be there in three days.” When we got up there, I remember John and Danny [Aykroyd] were together in front of the band, and I remember them saying, “Guys, we won’t be able to make you rich out of this, but we can keep you laughing.” I remember them saying that, and it’s true. It was probably about as much fun as you can have playing live."

Part of my journey of circling the sun some 59 times up to now includes accidentally appearing in the Blues Brothers movie.

In August '79, I was managing the Radisson Chicago Hotel (formerly the Sheraton Chicago and subsequently the Inter-Continental Chicago, which it remains today) located at 505 N. Michigan Ave. (between Illinois and Grand Aves.), I also lived in the hotel.

The Hotel's loading dock and dumpsters were located on Lower Michigan Ave. and the chase scene shooting was scheduled to include shooting right past our dock. We had been contacted to 'pretty up' the area as well as not to accept any deliveries during certain hours on Sunday.

The film crew came and setup barricades and police tape to block off areas used in the shot, so having nothing else to do on my day off, I went down & stood behind these and watched the shooting. It took several hours, as the 'Bluesmobile', Chicago PD and the 'Illinois Nazis' all rushed past the hotel (numerous takes).

Anyway, the shot must have been set-up wrong because as they fly past, if you freeze-frame the shot, you can see me standing over on the left side holding a beer and smoking a cigarette 8)

0.7 seconds of my 15 Minutes of Fame I guess... :)

cheers!

Cool stuff!

Screamin', nice axe man. Great minds think alike (yours and Steve Cropper's anyway!)

And Lightning, now I have another reason to watch that movie again.

Thanks all.
