You mean like Michael Jackson did?

Unethical 'Dr. Feelgood' types have supported and maintained the recreational, addictive, and for profit prescription drug trade for years. Florida has been a veritable rats nests of so-called 'pain clinics' wherein trafficking in oxycodone supplied the Mid-Atlantic states and beyond.

Propofol is an excellent general anesthetic, but not a slam/dunk agent, and must be administered a properly trained and skilled anesthesiologist who will have all the necessary backup to maintain a patient should there be any untowards responses to the drug. It's tricky stuff and there's absolutely no justification for Michael Jackson's physician to have been using it to 'induce' sleep. One does not 'sleep' under the influence of propofol even though one feels refreshed on emergence. One is placed under deep sedation bordering on the general anesthetic state, or in said state in which the loss of protective reflexes and cessation of respiration and cardiac function can occur suddenly.

Several years ago I had to have two (related) surgeries within a year. Both times they gave me some kind of happy giggle juice pre-op concoction.

I'm not sure what it was, but I know if I were the type to want to get high, it would be extremely dangerous to have that stuff around...you could have said, "We're going to dismember you now!" And I would agreed that it was a great idea.

Scared the crap out of me, and I never, ever, ever want to be in that state again.

We also found out (post-op) that I was allergic to several painkillers (especially hydrocodone and it's relatives), so that's another addiction I don't have to worry about...made me feel like crap, couldn't sleep, crawling up the walls and broke out in spots...and didn't even take the pain away!

The only painkiller that worked for me has since been pulled off the market, too, so hopefully I won't ever have to have a surgery again.

Thanks for your hands-on post, Snowjoe!

Some of the stories that I've heard about 'Molly" involve the
unsuspected ingestion of it after having it slipped into bar drinks.
One case this happened was reported from Nashville. Scary!

Which medication was that?

FYI, hydrocodone, a mainstay of pain managment after ambulatory surgery, has been rescheduled by the DEA for tighter control due to indiscriminate prescribing by providers.

I hope that I don't need anymore surgery again also!

No problem, everyone hears about the physical negative effects but neglect to realise that it can mentally change how you think and interpret things, not always for the worse but in my case very much so for the worse.

Did I have fun, sure, but it was not worth the last two wasted years of my life struggling with all the anxiety and panic that set on when I quit all the crap..

Feel like I'm out the otherside now however, and funnily enough my productivity and creativity are miles above what I was experiencing whilst I was doing it all.
