23 years ago ... yesterday right? Today's the 28th...

I'll never forget where I was and what I was doing when I heard the news.

Yes... it was 23 years ago yesterday the tragedy occurred, but in that pre-internet time, most didn't hear about it until the 28th.

cheers!

Keep going to write a big reply but too distracted again!

Every year on the 26th (I remember as his last gig) and yesterday I've been listening and watching many videos.

ahh ok lol. I remember Curt Loder on MTV breaking the unfortunate news. I played Riviera Paradise once, and then didn't listen to SRV for over a year after that. I was 16 years old at the time and I was totally crushed.

Just before this, my wife came out to me when I was riding the lawn mower. She said that she had heard on the radio that there were still tickets available to the Stevie Ray Vaughan concert. I replied, "No. Got too much going on. We'll catch him next time".

He went from here (Omaha) to a concert in Iowa and then the one in Alpine Valley, Wisconsin, his last.

The stuff that I had going on could have waited. His music so moved me long before I had any intention of learning guitar. And I could have seen him live a 20 minute drive from my house.

edited to add: btw, listening to "Crossfire" right now.

I was at work, and remember exactly where I was sitting. Can't even express how devastating the news was. He was shining so brightly.

I just looked up the date I saw him on the In Step tour, it was July 8, 1990 at Jones Beach Marine Theater in Long Island New York. The theater is outdoors and sits on the edge of the beach, a really nice venue:

I was driving to work when I heard of the accident and the loss of four people...crappy day at work, that was.

I remember some initial reports speculating that Clapton may have been with them...

In fact, he was in Chopper #3 just ahead of them and was one of the people who identified the bodies (Stevie was wearing his signature Maltese Cross).

cheers!

I'll never forget the chill that went through me when I heard the news,I had seen him in concert just a couple of months earlier and was literally close enough to the stage to be able to reach out and touch his boots-or swipe his Clyde McCoy wah.It was an incredible stroke of luck to be close enough to see every little bit of emotion on his face and each bead of sweat and to watch his beefy hands manhandle the strings into submission and get such monster tones from them-he's another one who'll never have an equal.
