A couple years back, I bought an Agile 3100 in a gorgeous cherry sunburst. Abalone inlay, ebony fretboard, grover tuners... My only complaint was the pickups - they were a bit muddy for my tastes. Plus, I've found myself gravitating more to the strat even for high-gain tones. I thought about upgrading to Duncan Pearly Gates, but at nearly $100 a pup that option was a long way off for a recent college grad.

Just moved to a new city with my girlfriend and tracked down a music shop downtown. Checked it out last week and a Samick Corsair caught my eye. This go-round I brought my Agile with me in hopes of finding a suitable trade since the off-brand means low resale value even for such a nice guitar. The guy was nice enough to drop the price on the Samick and offer me an even trade on my first bass! now I just need to save up $80 for the amp they have in there....

It's a poor cell phone shot, I don't have a real camera. But it's pretty, you can see the grain right through the finish. I plan to sand the finish a bit to reduce the shine and make it more matte like my strat and get a new pickguard at some point - probably a DIY project since I can't find Samick replacements anywhere. Possibly gonna add some inlay stickers to cover the off-center dots, I don't like those very much.

Congrats! Those look like the same pickups I had in my old fretless Samick. The split P was ceramic, and the J pickup was alnico. That combination made a really sweet tone with that super thick(over a half inch), bare fingerboard.

I wouldn't sand the finish...maybe use some light grade steel wool. Make sure you don't get any of that wool in the pickups, though...ruins 'em. Maybe somebody else has an even better method...

I forgot something about the J pickup. It was definitely stock...and I'm pretty sure it was oem Dimarzio.

Congratulations Brian, I like the looks, the off center dots add to the cool vibe that it's different to a Fender style bass. If it can sound good, it's all good.
