A couple of hours ago I got the devastating news that Linda Ronstadt has been stricken with this horrendous disease and it has already silenced her beautiful angelic voice. Ever since I first heard her singing with The Stone Ponies I was absolutely gobsmacked by her voice as well as her incredible beauty-I always thought that she was the most beautiful woman on Earth and I still do.I figured that there must be something terribly wrong with her when I saw a recent picture about 6 months ago and she had become morbidly obese and must have been at the very least 250 lbs.Apparently she had been exhibiting signs of Parkinson's for the past 8-10 years and where the disease can be that slow and insidious, its progress and onset is almost undetectable. For over 10 years I watched my father as each day that passed Parkinson's robbed him of a bit more of his function and mobility until it finally robbed him of his ability to breath.

Linda's voice is without a doubt the most beautiful voice that I ever heard and to this very day I get goosebumps and a lump in my throat every time that I hear her sing. Every song she sang she made her own, such as Roy Orbison's "Blue Bayou" and The Eagles' "Desperado".In 1986 she released her spectacular 2 CD set " 'Round Midnight" which she did with Nelson Riddle and his Orchestra. This set contained 30s and 40s hits such as "Crazy He Calls Me","I've Got A Crush On You"and her cover of "When You Wish Upon A Star" which is too beautiful for words to describe.I pray that God shows her mercy so that she doesn't suffer the ravages of this horrendous condition and gives her the strength and courage to fight it.She literally is facing the fight of her life and I hope that the power of the prayers and encouragement that I know that she'll get from all over the world helps comfort and guide her through this terrible gauntlet.God Bless You Linda,You could never know how deeply you and your angelic voice have moved and touched me.

Sad news, indeed. She seems like a beautiful lady inside and out, and her voice has been one of the most lovely I've ever heard.

I am very sad about her sickness. We must be getting old. I used to think she was so hot! Now she's just a poor, old lady. She could belt out the hits!

Wow this is sad news indeed. I attended a couple of her concerts back in the day. I had a mad crush on her. Those girl next door looks and amazing voice. I'm so glad I took pics of her in concert (they let you back then). I'm going to have to dig out the slides and put on some of her tunes. I still have a picture record album of her. Best of luck, and my prayers go out to her.

I was never a huge fan but I know she was an important player in the music scene. Devastating news nonetheless.

As I personally witness the descent of my father in law to Parkinson's I am very aware of how bad this disease is, starting with a mild tremor, than more uncontrolled, and even after surgery to stop the shaking the disease has progressed into the late stages now where basic motor skills are diminished and dementia is setting in.

Terrible all around, best of luck to her in her struggles.

Linda Ronstadt is above the politics in any HOF discussion. Any accolade from one of the boys clubs that run this hall or that hall is superfluous at this juncture anyway. I don't need them to tell me that she's amazing and had the most remarkable career of any female vocalist in recording history. If they choose to come get her now they will probably find she simply doesn't give a flip about them either.

Ronstadt was the first female solo act to reliably fill huge arenas as headliner tour after tour. The FIRST. People today tend to forget she was a monster headliner draw unequaled by any female vocalist before her. That is EVER.

"Playing as a sideman for a female vocalist is a dead end leading to nowhere for musicians." That was the pre-Ronstadt mindset. She blew that out of the water too. Ronstadt's touring and recording musicians often broke out on their own which was unheard of pre-Ronstadt. Henley, Frey and Andrew Gold to name only three off the top of my head. You could also count Waddy Wachtel "King of the Sidemen" in there too. You may never have heard of Wachtel but he's been an L.A. first call session player since he started playing with Ronstadt and plays with Keith Richards in his band today.

When you look as some of the one-dimensional acts in the R&R HOF and then look at Ronstadt's career, it is clear that she's actually on a whole different level. The most remarkable thing to me about Linda Ronstadt when compared to any other male or female superstar is the vast diversity of styles Ronstadt could seamlessly integrate into as if she'd been born into it all along. Country, Country Rock, Roots Country, Hard Rock, Folk, Pop, R&B. Big Band, Swing, Jazz, Broadway musicals, Mexican Folk and even New Age and a fling with Zydeco are a few of the styles she managed to absolutely downright own. I can't think of a soul who crossed so many boundaries and made it sound so right across the spectrum.

Linda Ronstadt is too big for any one hall to hold. I'm not surprised in the least at how that cookie crumbled and it doesn't diminish the value of her unequaled body of work in the slightest. She's the number one female vocalist of the recorded music era as far as I'm concerned. Even though she's not actually considered a player, Martin issued a signature limited edition Linda Ronstadt guitar a while back in her honor and they sold out the run so fast I never even saw one up for sale.

If there is any criticism one could make of her work, it is the frequently cited "Linda Photostat" angle. No she didn't do all original material and yes she harvested evergreens which became some of her biggest selling singles. Yes, when she did record originals they were written by others, and often by her songwriter friends. Rarely is such criticism leveled at Elvis, but he never really wrote any of his songs either in spite of what some credits on a few of his hits say. The way I look at it, some people are songwriters, some are musicians and some are singers. Some are halfway decent at all three like Henley and Frey. Ronstadt however is simply the most versatile female singer in the recorded music era period. End of story.

I'm very sad to hear about her health issue. She had already announced her retirement a few years ago. Singers come, singers go, but I am positive I will not live to see such an incomparable career happen again as one person strolls with ease through about every genre of music. It is good to see some love for her here. I have always appreciated her talent and enjoyed playing her records. Her autobiography titled "Simple Dreams: A Musical Memoir" drops in hardcover next month at a book store near you and promises to make for a zippy and sometimes juicy read. The tentative title was "Heart Like A Wheel" so I'm halfway expecting to learn more about her love life than I care to know. I thought a better title might have been, "I Finally Wrote Something: Surprise It's This Book!" But no.

I wish her well.

Medical advances in the treatment of Parkinson's have been very encouraging and some quality of life can be enjoyed for a good number of years, though the decline is inevitable.

My Dad has lived with the condition for over 20 years now. He has an exceptionally determined mindset which no doubt has helped him make it this far. He is mentally more fit than most 90-year-olds and as active as anyone can be when they're stuck in a wheelchair. Being stubborn as a mule is distinct advantage at times.

I understand that there is a realistic prospect of finding a cure for this degrading illness in the not too distant future. It won't help my old man but it may save Linda.

sad news for sure...I do wish her well.

when I hear things like this, I realize that sometime down the road, I won't be able to play guitar anymore. i'm 59 now, and have played since age 6. I am now battling some shoulder issues, so I have days when I am fine, and others when it just hurts too much.

I can't imagine the day when I have to say "that's it-it's over"
