I've had a Gibson ES-335 Dot Reissue that I've owned for over a year now. Ever since I bought it I've struggled with the size of the body and neck length, even though I'm 6ft3in. I took it to a rehearsal a couple of weeks ago and it reinforced my opinion that I could never get used to the Guitar. I struggled to reach up to the first fret and I feel I'm hunched over it when I play which makes my back hurt. I decided to see if I could trade it on so I put it up on a local site we have where there is a large community that trades Guitar Gear.

I did a deal last night for a 2006 Gibson SG Standard in Cherry and a 1994/1995 Fender Jazzmaster.

Image

The SG is near mint with a beautiful setup. It's got the perfect scale length and sounds immense, I've always wanted one. The Jazzmaster despite one ding looks great for it's age. It's got a set of Lindy Fralin Jazzmaster pickups installed that just sound great. The previous owned had it set up with 12s which mean you don't get the E string popping out of it's saddle but I may get a mustang bridge and have the Guitar set up with 10s.

I really think I got a great deal. I moved on a great Guitar that I never play for two Guitars I will always play and the ES-335 is going to an owner who will play it the way it deserves.

I will post better pictures when I can. :)

It looks like you got two nice guitars. One question, isn't the scale length of the SG and the ES335 the same at 24 3/4"?

Sorry it's actually the size of the body and then the neck, it's a bit of as reach.

Yah!! 335's were never comfortable for me. I don't really care for Teles for the same reason...too much guitar under my arm.I suppose playing Stratocasters since '58 formed bad habits. I tolerate my LP because it was a gift and particularly beautiful piece which I would never gig with.

Congrats, you really came out ahead on that transaction. The SG and Jazz are great guitars yet totally unalike in every way. Both of these guitars have their own unique tone and feel and they will certainly add to the tonal palette of your guitarsenal. With the Lollars in the JM she should really sound fat and full yet still have that identifiable P-90 like tone of the surf music stalwarts-the original Jazzmasters.

Of course the SG is a great guitar for raunchy classic rock like late 60s Who songs and "Revolver" era Beatles songs like "Rain" and "Paperback Writer".Just about any song that requires the gritty drive of a 'bucker" could be easily handled by an SG.I wish I could luck into a sweet deal like that-Enjoy!!!

Great find Torresfan, Consider flatwound 11s when you change the bridge on the Jazzmaster. My .02 cents worth.

Great looking Jazzmaster there. I remember auditioning those guitars when they were first released back in the day. As 'teens, already with a '58 Strat in the band, were very impressed with them, the original anodized pickguards in particular. They were serious 'nose to the music store window' guitars for sure. Could never get comfortable with it or the price. I trust you will enjoy the ride.

I love how my Lucille (335ish sized body) feels in my hands, it feels like I'm playing a piano-tar. But it's not for everyone, and it looks like you got a real nice pair on that trade, 'grats!

I'm thinking the same thing. :)

I've got a mustang bridge in the post so when it arrives I'll take it all to my local Guitar tech. It's virtually impossible to perform string bends with 12s.
