Good day Fender Folk! Someone has listed rough BFDR locally, reverb not working. Seller claims she's original, I'd have to check in-person.

Is this something that I should jump on? I have never come across one of these in my area. At the moment I am thinking it may be wiser to wait for a SFDR at around $1500, in better condition.

Many thanks in advance! :D

Edit: Original listing has been removed. I am viewing the amp this Saturday! :D

The serial number pegs it as a '65. For a grand, yeah -- I'd jump!

Thanks Arjay. I am hoping this is a real ad. It is a bit disheartening that the seller hasn't listed a phone number. I shot him an email; we'll leave the rest to fate.

Best of luck -- these amps typically go for $2000 and up.

Spoke with the fellow over the phone. Nice sounding man. He has removed the ad for me and we have arranged a meeting for this Saturday. This is unreal as I just sold my 5F6A Victoria this morning with the hopes of moving on to either a Princeton or Deluxe Reverb.

Paraphrasing the Captain Willard character (Martin Sheen) from "Apocalypse Now"......

"Everybody gets everything they want......I wanted a blackface Deluxe Reverb. And for my sins, they gave me one......brought it up like room service.

Tornado...seems to me you must be living right and your Karma is clean! Good luck on Saturday!

Heck even if the amp is working correctly...for that money you almost be crazy not to jump on it. The best part about the older amps is you can fix just about everything with a little time and patience (and a good amp tech).

And virtually every part in them remains available -- not so with many of today's "wünder amps".

As Arjay advised,if I came across a Black Face Deluxe Reverb at that low a price I would be on it like a pit bull on a Prime rib steak.

Thank you, good people. Let's hope the karma is clean enough that everything pulls through on the weekend. :D A few pictures, in the meantime:

The speaker is a replacement (looks to be a CTS alnico of some persuasion) but everything else seems to be there. For vintage Fender tone I recommend an original made-in-Chicago Jensen C12P or C12N -- easy enough to find on Ebay.

I am blessed. I've just gotten home from picking up the amp without a hitch. It's a little rough. The bottom of the cabinet has moisture damage. The previous owner removed the damaged tolex and slapped on a slab of linoleum to the base (ouch!) to keep the amp from leaving marks on his floor. Thankfully, this one detail is merely cosmetic. I can tell the amp is going to really be something to behold once it gets some TLC (the reverb and trem aren't currently to health). We plugged in an indonesian strat copy with shite pickups and the amp still managed to make it sound beautiful - a very good sign indeed!

The fellow who sold it to me said his then-girlfriend-now-wife had the amp 25 years ago, so he married her.

Installing a single small piece of Tolex should be easy enough to restore the bottom of the cabinet. Two hours' work at most.

Finding a suitable speaker may take a bit longer......

Nice score!

8)
