Well, I survived my first day of class! We haven't actually started sight singing yet, so we'll have to see how that goes. But so far, so good in Music Theory.

I was just told that I would not be needing my $200 math textbook today. But since I still needed a code inside, so I had to open it, destroying it's resale value in the process.

Yes, college textbook sales is a racket.

Took several classes where the teacher said from the start that we wouldn't be using the textbook, of course, this is after you already bought it.

Glad to hear you made it through your first class. With your attitude, you will have no trouble in college.

Jerry

$200 for a d... book. Rip off. No wonder people can't afford college anymore.

$200 is about average. I have a friend in calculus II and his text book cost about $350.

Crooks get people in a bind and rip them off. It is un-American.

Another quick update: Last week I received the highest possible score on my first ear training test! I'm actually going to help tutor other students (which is crazy to me, I thought I'd have a really hard time at it). My first sight singing test is in about nine hours, so we'll see what happens there. I could use all the prayers/mojo/good vibes I could get for this one. I'm so not a singer.

Major mojo, of course :!: Sure looks like you've got some gifts you've been capitalizing on but never realized consciously. 8)

A little bit long on the updates....but it appears she's been playing out quite a bit, as well.

You're in good company, Clapton didn't want to sing in the early days, but he did pretty good overall.

I've vanished lately. Just so insanely busy between school and work (which is actually a good thing, as much as I resent it sometimes). I have literally every hour of every day of the entire week mapped out, with no room to spare. (Unless I stay up late, like I'm doing now.) I can't believe it's October (and that October is already halfway over!). Anyways, so it's about time for an update!

My first Music Theory, Ear Training and Math tests were aced! My sight singing test was probably not perfect, but still within a passing grade. My professor even makes me sing parts solo in class sometimes... I'm not sure if it's because I'm hitting the right note or if everyone is really that bad... I'm not good at it, but I'm studying like crazy for that very reason. I have no idea how I did on my second Ear Training test though, because I thought it was going to be about identifying various kinds of seven chords and it ended up being about inversions (which I didn't study for at all). My second Theory test went reasonably well, and despite not having my scores yet (and running out of time for the last three questions), I think I was also within passing range for that one too.

I'm also taking private guitar lessons, which is by far the best thing that you can get college credit for ever! I have jury at the end of the year for that, which is basically just the Battle of the Blues: College Edition. My teacher is pretty cool too, he's a really good jazz guitarist.

Good to see your post Texas! Looks like you've got school/work handled, your schedule sounds brutal but you are taking care of business and that pays off big time. Have fun with your guitar lessons, a credited perk that I took advantage of in college as well.
