I have teles, strats, and mustangs, and I find I'm in love with whichever one I have in my hand at the moment.

I do have to say that when I go to the tele without the belly cut after playing any of the other guitars, I jab my ribs a little bit. I usually play sitting down.

The Wilkinson was a replacement .. for a Gotoh replacement. I fitted the Gotoh 6-saddle flat bridge years ago, worst thing I ever did to a guitar. The saddles wouldn't screw back far enough to intonate and that thick heavy baseplate just robbed the guitar of all its natural resonance. I struggled with it for a long time then just binned it and fitted the Wilkinson.

At the same time I fitted a Wilkinson Strat bridge to my partscaster, that was a revelation too. Both units made more of an improvement to the guitars than a set of new pickups would, and for a lot less money.

I fitted a Wilkinson compensated bridge to my MIJ Tele, superb piece of hardware. Intonation's good all the way up the neck and the brass saddles make it ring and snarl and growl and do all the things a Telecaster should do.

Actually... they do !

The 'improvements' mentioned are all available straight from the factory... but at a premium price.

The Fender Vintage Hot Rod 52 Telecaster comes with a 3-saddle compensated bridge as do several others.

But as stated, these are all near the top of the Price pyramid for Fender's manufactured guitars.

Gotta Pay to Play sorta thing. ;)

Me... ?? I just ordered an Wilkinson 3-saddle compensated bridge (american string spacing) for my '99 modded Mex Tele for $29. A lot cheaper than forking over a Grand+ for Fender to do the work ! 8)

cheers!

Just to be clear here, neither bridge was replacing an original Fender unit so the point about FMIC listening to players might not really apply here.

As for price, the Wilkinson units are comparatively inexpensive but I can't fault them for build quality and tonal improvement. All that brass really tightens up the tone of the bass strings and puts a special kind of resonance into the mids. I'd pretty much fallen out of love with the Tele until I fitted that bridge, now it's hardly ever in the case.

I'm going to try to pick up that tele this friday. Money has been tight, so I've been selling a few things that I don't use anymore, video games and such, and I've almost got enough to make up the difference between what Nick at sam ash said he could give me for the airline and the tele price. It's only 50 dollars or so, but I want to make sure I don't go in there without enough. I'd hate to get myself all excited only to leave empty handed.
I put new strings on the airline last night, gave them a nice workout, then wiped them down with the string cleaner, wiped down the body and neck really good, and put it in the case. it's ready to go. Since I've locked my mind on the Tele, the airline just isn't as exciting as it used to be.... the really sad part is it'll only be a matter of months or years before I have another guitar in my sights. One of these days I'll have a second keeper, but for now I'll continue to have a revolving door for instruments in my house. :/
as for the kramer sidetracking that happened here....ummm.... kramers are ugly. sorry. lol.

In the case of the Telebration version the bridge is fully intonatable.
