This headstock design is on the Pensa-Suhr guitars, of which Mark Knopfler's is most notable. I've seen the Suhr catalog and I've been of the opinion that some of the headstocks appear a tad shorter. [I may be mistaken.] I took that to mean that he could not use the headstock used when he was collaborating with Rudy Pensa who still offers that guitar in his catalog. I remember talking to Rudy about converting the headstock on the neck of an old Fernandes Strat of mine some 20 years ago at least. [He opted out.] Tom Anderson also uses this style of headstock on many of his models. At one time, Warmoth offered this headstock option on its neck. I no longer see it on their website. Perhaps one of the aforementioned enjoined them from doing so. Now the question seems to be who did what from and with whom, and when.

P.S. I don't care for the snubnosed ML headstock on his Suhr guitars.

True, but it's Kramer who developed first this headstock style on their Pacers a few years before Rudy build the MKs for Mark himself!

The beak design was Kramer's response to Fender's lawsuit concerning their trademark "dogleg" headstock.

So we have Pensa, Suhr, Kramer, and Anderson all employing the headstock in some fashion. I can only assume, on that basis, that there is no infringement of trademark in this circumstance. I emailed Warmoth this morning to inquire as to why they no longer offer it in their catalog. I am also awaiting additional information from Thomann regarding the headstock signature on the Masterbuilt Clapton.

The beak peghead was shortlived as Kramer later went to adopt Gibson's Explorer headstock shape before following the pointy trend started by Jackson/Charvel a couple of years earlier.

Hamer adopted Jackson's pointy droopy designs after the Kaman buyout.

Check their website. Their are two guitar models which retain it.

You should specify the manufacturer's website otherwise I'll be unable to check the models you are talking about.

OK, I've just found the models you mentioned, there are two versions of their venerable Pacer, Vintage and Classic.

.....and there's a variation in the contour of the tip between the two models.

The Pacer reissues are actually different as opposed to the originals.

The Pacer Imperial is the same guitar except for the addition of a droopy pointy headstock.

There's no Pacer Imperial reissue, as far as I can tell.

I happen to love the piercing tone of the Telecaster. I love it when the country guys pull and pop the strings.

Real Kramer guitars(the U.S. ones) are super high quality. I'm surprised there isn't a huge collectible market for those things. I'm talking about the later Eddie Van Halen influenced Kramers, before they went to Korea. I don't care for the aluminum neck mutants from the mid 70's.

Not sure how this turned into a Kramer thread but I'll just leave this here ... if ever a guitar deserved a reissue then it's this one

I agree... I thought this thread was about Telecasters. Kramer guitars just scream "80's hair metal" to me anyways.

Anyway... getting back to Telecasters, I don't know if I'd want a classic style Tele with the 3 bridge saddles. You wouldn't be able to intonate the guitar 100% exact. It would have to be a hair sharp on one string and a hair flat on the other, or vice versa. Or, am I wrong?

I fitted a Wilkinson compensated bridge to my MIJ Tele, superb piece of hardware. Intonation's good all the way up the neck and the brass saddles make it ring and snarl and growl and do all the things a Telecaster should do.

One would think that, with all the feedback FMIC gets from these Forums as to how the end user improved the functionality of the gear, they would make changes accordingly...but NO! Uffff!!!
