I guess this says something positive about where my musical tastes and playing styles have evolved to. Like I said in my other post a couple of days ago, I've had my eyes on a blue tele for a while...finally went down to Sam Ash and played the same model today. MAN!
It also helps that I played it through a vintage fender tube amp of some sort, but wow... I had picked up a few before and always thought they were too blocky and uncomfortable to sit and play, but this thing felt magical. If this trade deal doesn't work out on CL, I'm going to be either finding another similar deal or getting the money together for the one at SA asap. can't. freakin'. wait. :D

Finding a Telecaster with "that" sound and feel for the first time is a near-religious experience. Grab it with both hands.

In the words of Sir Henry Royce - "quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten".

That's the kind of thing that can happen when you come across the right guitar L&C, a few months ago Blinkers brought down the '52 Vintage Custom Tele that he had just bought so that I could try it out. When I picked it up,the way it felt in my hands was just incredible,I had a real Eureka! moment because it couldn't have felt any better if I had had the Custom Shop tailor make one for me from my measurements. When I plugged it in that's what clinched it,she sounded incredible. As luck should have it Blinkers isn't a Tele type guy and offered her to me for a real good price.Despite having promised the Missus no more guitars-she could clearly see how over the moon I was about this Tele that she even suggested that I buy it-so I did-I HAD TO....and now I suggest that you do the same-when a guitar speaks to you,you have to do the right thing and take her home.

I can understand why it takes some players a long time to come to appreciate the simple beauty of the Telecaster. In the hands of a good player a Tele can sing and scream and grunt and growl like no other guitar but that bridge pickup can be unforgiving. There's nowhere to hide on a Telecaster.

As has been said, a Telecaster is the Swiss Army Knife of guitars.

Everyone needs at least one !

cheers!

To hear the sonic capabilities of a Tele all one has to do is to play a few tracks by Danny Gatton or Roy Buchanan and be absolutely astounded what can be wrenched from a guitar that's as basic as you can get.Roy especially could make a Tele produce any sound possible and many never thought possible.

Good choice, I think. Especially, a blue one, if you can get it. I wish I had one. Maybe someday. All I have is a cheesy copycat, but I suppose it's better than no guitar. The one thing I love about Telecasters is their simplicity. You can do a lot with one, I think.

I've said before that I'm not particularly comfortable with that guitar but the one I really should never have swapped out was a '93 TelePlus, natural finish with a maple board, in 9/10 condition which I swapped out for a '93 Blackie in equally fine shape.

If you're fond of that bluesy Tele sound combined with some PAF warmth and have enough bucks in your pocket, get a custom shop "iceman" signature!

cool vids, thanks Lightnin! I always felt they were too square and heavy and awkward... I guess I'd just never picked up the right one before. I did go play a few more yesterday and one or two of them had that same old cumbersome feeling, but I'm still madly in love with that LPB MIM standard. I'm going to get it ASAP. Just hope it doesn't disappear before I make it back in there.

Nah!! Mine was 'the Radiohead guitar'.. and was a real SOB rock and blueser. No country twanger that. Of course, they're in demand now because of the band. If mine ever turns up for sale, I'll know it, but I ain't tell'in how.

You can make them less square if you want. Subtle application of a surform in the right place gets the job done every time.
