I have been off the board for a long time I hope this is not a repeat topic.

I see the Eagles are gearing up for a final tour and planning to bring original member Bernie Leadon back on board. Randy Meisner was also invited but health issues prevent his return.

I was an Eagles fan back in my teen years, before they became really big. For me the first 3 albums were and still are the best. After Bernie and Randy left, I left too. I never cared for the Eagles following work. The essence and soul were gone. Something very different emerged.

Any way I am glad Bernie is getting another chance. I hope he still has that original Telecaster.

I'm going to see Don Felder and prefer to see him rather than the Henley/Frey mega priced show.

This book is the real deal!

+10M...I saw Don Felder play and sing a year or so back and he was great! The Eagles so screwed him, all because of Glen Frey's ego couldn't handle just how much Felder contributed to the Eagles biggest selling album...there would have been NO Hotel California without Don Felder's Music!

If you get the chance to see Don Felder, go and enjoy it, he does not disappoint!

And to be back on Topic...Bernie was also pushed out of the Eagles by Frey...Hmmm coincidence? Nope...Frey is just a douche.

As much as I love his style, I actually prefer The Eagles' pre-Joe Walsh era. The band's fundamental sound changed significantly after "Mr. Barnstorm" came on board, and not in an altogether positive manner. As well, the Frey/Felder ego machine was considerably smaller which accentuated the band's cohesiveness.

Odd, I was thinking this morning, when 'Bitter Creek' came up on the iPod, how I lost interest in The Eagles after Bernie left. The country rock vibe they had during his time on board was very cool. The stadium rock thing that followed his depature, not so much. Last time I heard 'Seven Bridges Road', I went on a 9 state killing spree. 4 part harmony. Really.

Bernie and Don Felder seem to have reached a level of calm adulthood not usually found in rockers. Both seem like nice men.

+10,000!

DF's book primarily confirmed what everyone suspected about the sex, drugs and power trips. It also shows that there is a price for being a control freak perfectionist. Everybody knew almost all this stuff already or suspected it. DF just put what everyone already knew or had figured out for themselves on paper.

DF settled his 50 million dollar lawsuit out of court for an undisclosed sum nobody will ever know. Many say it was "a substantial sum" however nobody knows how substantial and by the time he paid his legal bills, I have to wonder how much was left?

Besides DH and GF you have to add Eagles' manager Irving Azoff to the list of characters in this cluster. Rarely is Azoff's name brought up, but he was pivotal so let's not leave him out.

The band's history with all the associated legal actions would make a very interesting mini-series. I think Netflix has the chutzpah to do it but not sure if even they are up to fighting the trio of Azoff, Henley and Frey over it. The trio managed to get Felder's original US publisher to drop Felder's book under threat of litigation if they didn't. Oh well there goes the First Amendment right out the window.

What about freedom of the press in the good old USA? Apparently it doesn't count if your name is Henley or Frey. DF had to go to the UK to get his book published because no US publisher wanted the trio coming after them next.

No way could you put an accurate representation of this band's history on broadcast TV. A good working title for an off-broadcast mini-series project might be, "Take It Sleazy."

first off- I am a big fan of the eagles.

however, after watching the "history of the eagles" a bit of the shine came off. frey's attitude towards felder made me think he is a first class jerk. don't think I would pay the big bucks to see them-and didn't when they were in town a few years back.

time is too short, from personal experience. back in 1967 in grade school, we fired the drummer in our band, and replaced him with a drummer who was much better. from that moment on our friendship was not the same, and I have not seen him since 1968. I wish I could apologize to him for that face to face.

sure seems petty on frey's part, but he has to live with it-not me

Phreddy- At least one person knows how Pete Best feels. :)

Really, he should have practised more. If he understood that, his life was improved by the experience. There's nothing like a great drummer.

That ending solo sounds great even on acoustic!

I can't say I'm a big fan of Frey and Henley, although they are without a doubt both talented. I am not a big Joe Walsh fan. I never cared for his sound, nothing personal, he might be agreat guy.

Well regardless, I am happy that they have been able to put the past behind and invite these two guys back. Bernie was always my favorite.

I like many of the Eagle tunes, even thru Hotel California. I was also kind of disheartened, seeing the Eagles emerge to reap vast benefits from the "country-rock" foundation so many hard working, creative musicians had been building for many years. For me, their most important contribution was making Geffen so rich that he could afford to record interesting artists with less radio appeal such as Ry Cooder, David Blue, Judee Sill, Randy Newman, Tom Waits, and Essra Mohawk.
