That was the billing at a local bar I go to that has a Monday blues show. But, I had an inkling that "friends" might have more meaning with Jimmy than with others. So, I brought my camcorder with me.
What I got was a cool evening of blues from a variety of great players including Willy Chambers from the Chambers Bros.
THEN, Joe Bonamassa walked up to the stage carrying a guitar case. I was smiling the rest of the night and I have it on video from about 15 feet away. Everyone on the stage kicked up their playing factor from great to stellar after Joe got there, including Vivino.
It's hard to describe the fluid ease of playing style that Joe has over all the other great players that were on that stage last night, but it's very apparent as soon as he starts playing. I'm not talking about flash, it's more like the notes are part of his DNA.
It will take me a while to get the video up on YouTube, but I'll post links when I do. Sometimes you luck out, last night I lucked out.

Nice video's Mike. Last night Jimmy was in blues mode. He even played the first song he ever wrote which was pretty good. Here's one of the video's with Joe Bonamassa.

Understand your appreciation for your seating. I literally sat at Les Paul's feet at the Iridium one evening about six months before he passed.
As for JB's DNA, given the age at which he started out, and who his mentor was, I have no doubt the gift is in there. [I wonder if Quinn Sullivan will be as brilliant?] However, I have similiar feelings about Joe that I had about Gary Moore. I'd like to see him be more of a minimalist in his playing. True, he's got great chops, but I feel he overplays his solos way too often.

FYI: great article on Vivino in Vintage Guitar July 2013

I read it on the plane over to England last month. I left it with my friend over there since I couldn't pry it out of his hands. I'm afraid that one magazine is going to get him into some trouble. :)

Here's a couple more videos from the other night. The first is with Willy Chambers playing a Strat and the second is a guy named Josh Smith, playing a Tele.

Josh doesn't do his solo until about half way into the song, but it's a nice one.

One last video from the other night, only because I couldn't leave out Kirk Fletcher, he's such a great player. He's a regular at these jams. When he's hot, the paint starts to bubble on the walls, no lie!

I hadn't been aware of Jimmy Vivino or his accomplishments until I read the excellent feature about him in the July Vintage Guitar mag article-very impressive and great incentive to get more into his music.
