...'Cause someone else been sticking their dipstick into her Oil Pan...' ;)

A favorite on the setlist of Little Ed & the Blues Imperials last night at Famous Dave's BBQ & Blues Club.

I've known Ed Williams (aka Little Ed) and his half-brother James 'Pookie' Young (bassist) for more than 20 years and have seen them play at least 2 dozen times.

They never disappoint.

They've been playing true Chicago Blues since the early '70s and were well-schooled by their uncle, Blues Foundation Hall of Fame inductee: J. B. Hutto.

Despite being truly talented musicians, their sets are so light and joyful, you can look around the room and see everyone smiling all night long, my Bro-in-Law who went with me was grinning ear-to-ear all nite. But the biggest grin in the club is usually on Ed's face.

It's a joy to see how much fun they have playing and entertaining the crowd. Unlike many players today who simply come out and play, Ed and the Blues Imperials are true Showmen, something often missing in acts today.

It's practically impossible not to have a great time at one of their shows.

When Mrs. LMN and I were just dating, I took her to see Little Ed, who jumped off the stage in the middle of the number, Gibson in-hand, trailing a 30' cord, and started dancing with us on the dancefloor... never missing a measure !

A couple samples:

(The first two are especially interesting because Little Ed is using his late uncle - J.B. Hutto's 1966 Montgomery Ward Res-O-Glas Airline guitar)

cheers!

Yea... Pookie has an unusual style for sure, maybe the most economic right hand in the Bass World, and wearing the Bass so high up on his chest, he doesn't have far to reach either !

Last time they were up here, we all hung out after the set and someone mentioned Pookie's extremely laid back style.

Little Ed piped-up and said: " Sh*t... Pookie don't even use enough energy to burn up the Fried Chicken dinner he ate before the show... I mean just look at him... !! "

Everyone laughed... incl. Pookie !

cheers!

I think he does quite a bit, judging from the 2 vids. He just does it so well that one doesn't notice. Playing with the meat of your thumb has many benefits.

Great band...and I'm now a fan of this Pookie dude.
