long story as short as i can get it...
father-in-law's been livinin with us for 2 years. when his wife passed away several years ago, he began buying lots of toys:
fender telecaster, mexican made.
fender automatic amp,
microphone and stand.

he's moving out and decided to bestow above mentioned belongings to his favorite son-in law, i. e., ME.

tonight he unloaded a bunch of electronic toys he bought and never used... some i can figure out, some have got me confused.
one is an omni i/o put out by M audio delta series. i guess i need an interface card to hook it up to my computer, and it's some kind of mixer... but i don't know exactly what it's supposed to do.
another is a yamaha TG100 tone generator. it has two 1/4" line out jacks in the back along with some midi jacks, but only one 1/8" audio in up front. any ideas what this thing does?

i used to play around with home recording years ago, but the most hi-tech equipment i owned was a fostex 4-track and a tascam reel-to-reel..

any guidance is appreciated.
thanks

The Delta is a computer interface for recording audio... it should have come with a card that goes in your computer. If the card is missing you might be able to find one on eBay.

The TG100 is a cheap General Midi synthesizer, the Yamaha version of a Roland Sound Canvas... you can learn all about the GM standard here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_MIDI

And that will tell you a lot about the TG100. (I actually owned one of those back in the 80s... my first synth when I started learning MIDI, and it's still sitting in the studio storage room right now). The front audio jack is a headphone out, I think. There's no audio in... just MIDI.

it has two 1/8" jacks in front. one says audio in, the other says headphones out. i think gramps might have tossed the card... that's what i was afraid of.
i'm going to see what happens if i plug the record out jack into an amp... might be able to use it for a mixer?

I meant on the TG100, no audio in.... although maybe there was... I just went into the next room to look at mine and remembered I finally gave it away last summer!

I don't think the Delta will do anything without the card. It probably doesn't do any internal audio mixing: it's just intended to convert audio from analog to digital and back, and it can't do that with the card. In fact, the card is the Delta... what you're looking at is really just a breakout box that lets you plug into the card.

thanks again jim,
i'll keep my eyes peeled for the card when we help him pack all his stuff in boxes. i found the software and the manual at least... and a bunch of wires... all kinds of wires... i'm beginning to think he just bought stuff that looked cool... he doesn't even have a desktop computer.
