Take a look at "Daft Punk" featuring the legendary Nile Rogers on their hit "Get Lucky"
Nile is not playing his "Hitmaker" strat, but a perspex strat clone
Then take a close look at both his and the bass player's jack sockets, is that a new wireless system? I've never seen anything that small if it is

It is a stage prop. They aren't really playing live but synching. Looks like a clear knob stuck on a phone plug. You can make one with a clear knob and a broken off phone plug glued to it. I think this one was a plug shaft heated and pressed into the plastic as it softened a bit. That is exactly what it is if you look closely, as you can see the center shaft but there are no internal components at all. The instruments are just props and you aren't actually hearing them playing those things.

I'd bet the rent Mr. Rodgers is playing "The Hitmaker" Strat on the actual recording. Over 2 Billions Dollars and counting has been harvested from consumers with it and he's not likely to gamble on changing that studio formula now. Nile Rodgers recording with any other axe would be about as likely as Loretta Lynn covering "Le Freak."

In a video players often show up with their axe or axes, but wind up playing the one the director has for a specific visual he wants. Directors usually have a certain image in mind and their craft is their craft. In a stylized video like this with matching transparent axes, I guarantee that is what happened.

Like many players he tends to stick with what works to get his instantly recognizable sound. "The Hitmaker" hardtail 59 Strat is what does that sound. He is the type that gets very emotionally attached to gear. Not just guitars but amps also.

His most recognizable play is rooted in an old school jazz technique known as the "George Van Eps Style" which involves playing only three notes at a time. This same style works well also for keys. He has said that even if he's fretting all 6 strings that he's probably only hitting 3 of them at a time. That statement makes perfect sense when you listen to him play. Anyone trying to emulate him should get into the Van Eps style first and then see how he adapted that classic jazz style to funk for over two-billion dollars worth of product out the door. His style adaptations aren't as easy to emulate as he makes it sound in the recordings because he changes up rhythms so much.

Nice informative post BrotherDave
Yes, I know they are miming and synching to the record, but just wondered whether we were getting a sneaky little peek at what will become run of the mill soon and someone was showing off their latest gadget
I know Hank Marvin and Bruce Welch both use a wireless system live that is about 2-1/2 inches long and only as fat as a cigar tube

BTW, sorry about the missing"P" in Perspex,an oversight as I don't use a spell checker but do have an old laptop with keys that sometimes have a life of their own (at least us on this side of the pond can say words like aluMINium and soLder correctly) :D

That Hank Marvin/Bruce Welch wireless gizmo sounds like a Guitar Bug. It was make by AKG and I don't think they are making them anymore. I believe that SAMSON is licensing AKG's design and is now selling the old Guitar Bug under the Samson brand renamed as part of the AIRLINE series.
