Ah, it begins. YouTube should be full of videos of the show tomorrow.

[quote="Miami Mike"]As I posted somewhere else on this forum (YouTube thread?) it would be interesting to see a collab album, but would it be The Yardboys or The Beachbirds. :D [quote="Miami Mike"]

You might call it ''The You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To Tour".

Any reviews yet?

Just getting back into the swing of things, so to speak.

Brian doesn't need Mike. Brian's band are "the best live band on the planet," according to Paul McCartney.

Jeff Beck has ALWAYS been a Beach Boys fan, especially the early Hot Rod type songs. "Hot Rod Honeymoon" in on a Jeff album, complete with Beach Boys harmonies. Check out You Tube for Jeff doing "Surfs Up" with Brian's band.

For what it's worth, even though the Mike and Bruce show is the best "Beach Boys" band (apart from last years 50th Anniversary tour) in a while, Brian's own band now has more original members than the "official" Beach Boys.

I don't agree that the Mike Love version of the BBs is the best band at all. Since Dennis and then Carl died, I can only think of Brian as the sole (Wilson) survivor and seeing his band during the *SMILE* tour was the best that I've seen.

I've always looked at Brian as Murray's kid, the one that his dad wanted to mold, but he refused and did his own thing musically.

To each their own I guess...

Unfortunately, Murray's impact on his son was brutal. You can't look back and suppose what might have been if Brian's father had been a kinder, gentler person. Same for 'Meatloaf'. Sometimes adversity is the tinder which ignites the fire in the belly and the genius of a mind. Culture becomes the beneficiary, but what a price to pay for a human being. :?

I went to the Boston show. What a great show. The Brian Wilson Band sounded great. The harmonies were vintage Beach Boys. Jeff Beck was awesome. For a guy who's about to hit the 70 mark, his playing is remarkable. He's just gets better and better. While other guitarist's abilities decline or their musical styles get outdate, Jeff keeps on re-inventing himself, while constantly pushing his musicianship and guitar playing to the next level. I highly recommend this show!

I was just reading the PA review:

"Nearly 2 and 1/2 hours of music last night.

It started with "God Only Knows," perhaps The Beach Boys' best song. Dedicating the song to his late brother Carl, who originally sang lead vocals on it, Wilson rose to the occasion and sang the best of night – emotive and nuanced, with a sympathetic band and rich harmonies behind him.

It got a standing ovation, to which Wilson responded, "That's your song. That's your song."

But that was only the beginning. It was followed by a wonderful "Sloop John B," on which Jardine shared vocals (more about that later), again above swelling harmonies. Then the start of "Wouldn't It Be Nice" drew a collective gasp from the audience.

"Help Me Rhonda" had the crowd of nearly 2,000 – many of them older – up and dancing. Wilson sang "I Get Around" and "Good Vibrations" with a lot of gusto and emphasis, something that wasn't always evident. And the set closed with "Fun, Fun, Fun," which also had people dancing.

As could be expected, not all of Wilson's set was as good as that. It was easily as good as The Beach Boys 50th anniversary tour that played the center in 2012 – it seemed more dignified not having Beach Boys' Mike Love's gawkish and hokey antics – it sometimes fell into the same traps.

Though Wilson's name was on the marquee, he sang lead on only two of the first songs. That was fine when Jardine took over – he was better on a cover of The Crystals' "The I Kissed Her" than when he did it in The Beach Boys' show.

But Marks' mediocre turn on "Little Bird," and the fact that it was included only because it was a song by the late Dennis Wilson, seemed unnecessary. As did the inclusion of a combination of the standards "Old Man River"/"Cotton Fields," even with Jardine's singing and nice harmonies.

The choice of "'Til I Die," a 1971 Wilson nugget that Jardine said was performed for the first time Sunday, was more interesting than good, as was the instrumental "Pet Sounds."

But the most egregious was background singer Jeff Foskett singing "Don't Worry Baby." Even if Wilson's voice sometimes sounded electronically enhanced, and had a flat affect on "Sail On, Sailor" (that song got a standing ovation nonetheless), it was better to hear him sing.

He was good on "Heroes and Villains" – he even smiled – and "Marcella," which rocked.

Never was Beck's influence more evident than when, halfway through his 14-song, 70-minute instrumental set, he played Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing." His hand was all over his guitar's fret board, as the crowd cheered.

That started a run that, as in Wilson's set, displayed Beck at his best: Clapton-esque with the melody-driven "You Never Know"; slower and sympathetic on "Where Were You"; and pure power and flashy speed on "Big Block."

Those songs contrasted the earlier part of Beck's set, during which his strong four-person band frequently enhanced his playing, but also sometimes diminished as they buried it in sound, such as on the rich "Yemin."

Like so many 1960s guitar gods, Beck occasionally spent too much of his set high on the strings. That was the case on "The Pump," an appropriately titled churner.

But Beck's strength is his miraculous manipulation of his strings, whether it be firing riffs on jazzy rock such as the set-opening "Eternity's Breath/Stratus," effortlessly noodling on the progressive rock of "Even Odds" or especially on the powerful blasts of "You Know, You Know."

Beck only addressed the crowd to tell them he was honored to play with Wilson, who returned to the stage with Jardine and Marks and some of his band – 14 people on stage at once – for The Beach Boys' "Our Prayer."

Beck's set closed with some of his best: The very good, bluesy "Child is the Father of the Man" was perhaps his flashiest and most demonstrative of the night. The country-tinged "How High the Moon" was rollicking. And The Beatles' "A Day in the Life" with only his own band, was astonishing, and got a deserved standing ovation.

Beck closed his set with "Rollin' and Tumblin'," also exactly what its title suggests – a rollicking fun blast.

Wilson and his band joined Beck for an ending run of The Beach Boys' "Barbara Ann" and "Surfin' USA," both fun audience sing-alongs, but with Beck adding intricate, screaming guitar.

The encore was a largely instrumental cover of the Irish standard "Danny Boy," highlighted by Beck's playing, searing and sympathetic and Wilson, Jardine and Marks harmonizing on choral vocals."
