Only a couple days into a band search...and I'm already burned out of looking. I've posted ads for work..but the people that call me clearly haven't read my requests.

Christian Musicians, Acoustic Musicians, and New Country...uh-uh...no way. Doesn't anybody like Classic Rock anymore?

I'm seriously considering going Rap/R and B., with my bass.

What's it like in your town?

Only a couple of days in is probably waay too early to be discouraged. Give it a little time.

It may heppen in the next dozen calls or the next 100. But, it will happen!

Good Luck !

cheers!

Its hard to find a "good" band. I know so many hack musicians, it makes me sick :(

I find it very tough also, and I'm in L.A. So many people have such a narrow definition of what they want to do.
Last week I rehearsed with a couple of guys with the intention of starting a new band. I had played with them before and they are very good, so I went in with high expectations.
For some reason it wasn't working. We sounded bad and had some disagreements on direction.
I chalk it up to a bad night and feel if we tried we could find a middle ground that would work for us.
I'd say it's 50/50 if we ever get together again since not trying is the easy thing to do.
I thought that this week I'd be making plans for the new band. Instead I'm still searching.
Damn, I should write a blues song!

I want to start a band that can play backup for a variety of musical styles.

Need folks willing to emulate canned backing tracks for country, blues, jazz, reggae, gospel, metal, whatever.

My thinking is that first, someone willing to do something like this would definitely not be a self-centered egomaniac, second, they would be very versatile, and third, this unselfish versatility will lead to unexpected creativity.

Cheers,

Thank you.

I've been lurking on the websites for a while. Same stuff warmed over every couple months.

I just tried yet another band venture, this one fronted by a husband who plays bass and his wife, who only sings. I took part in quite a few practices, played out live with them three times before the drummer bailed. Truth be told, the keyboard man sucked pretty bad, as did the drummer. I think this might have been my last "band" effort. I'll be sticking to the solo stuff, which allows me to gig 6-10 times a month, make more money and not have to deal with halfassed wannabe musicians. It's just too much work these days.

But if you've only been looking for a few days, try a few YEARS!~

A few days is a bit impatient! Try a couple of years!

My towns basically a retirement town, so there's like, no one my age that'll make a band with me. And all the people that are into music, are already in bands.

I'll stick to kicking a bass drum instead.

Keep trying bro. Maybe put out flyers telling people what you're looking for and go about it as starting a band to what you want to do vs. trying to find someone else's band that fits your deal, even if it's classic rock. Start with a drummer, or bass player and keep building from there...

Where I live it's particularly tough to find a band if you're a guitarist. Everybody wants to play guitar. There are a couple of independant artsy style weekly newspapers in the area and both have extensive artist's classified sections and are pretty much the best way to meet musicians in the area. You see lots of ads for guitarists looking for a band. You also see lots of ads for bands looking for bassists, keyboardists and drummers. You very rarely see a bassist or a drummer looking for a band and you never see a band looking for a guitarist. Well, at least I've never seen it, anyway. I am a prime example of this phenomenon; a guitarist who wasn't really looking for a band but a position as a bassist in a band completely out of my normal genre pressured itself on me out of the blue and unprovoked simply because a guy told a guy who told a guy I once played bass back in the day. That being said I freely admit I'm having fun doing it.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

That's one of the reasons I got a Bass Guitar in the first place. One was to be able to add real bass to my recordings, and two was to be able to fill bass in a band if no guitar positions were availible.

I was offered a steady gig a while ago, - turned it down..

decided that at this point in my life,,, (56) I just can't see myself joining in with a whole new crowd of ppl... I tend to go back and forth with various projects that include ppl I've known for more than half my life and some are even fam and extended fam..

just the way I roll..
