It's been a bad year for musicians.

And it's only going to get worse, I'm afraid. The good guys are all getting older, older than me, even, so how much longer can they last?

You could be exiting the Queens-Midtown Tunnel heading east onto the Long Island Expressway and see the billboard that read:

"Welcome to Long Island.
Home of the Blue Oyster Cult."

There was a brief time in NYC when in *every* taxi on the partition, there would be a BOC sticker. All placed there by Murray Krugman, at the time a Columbia label product manager, and co-producer of the band!

Thanks for posting Mike.
R.I.P. Allen Glover Lanier.
My favorite of their albums, the first one in 1972 a year when the competition in rock music was very fierce, the second album wasn't bad either.

"E.T.I." has always been my favorite BOC song.

May the winds forever fill your sails....

I never got to see the Soft White Underbelly but if I recall I at least saw BOC 4 times.
Very much an underated band in the late 70's....

My girlfriend told me about this the other day. Very sad news. :( I saw them in 1989 (I believe he was in the band at the time) and they were an early big influence of mine. I've been partial to "Fire Of Unknown Origin" and "Some Enchanted Evening."

Was about 1972 when I saw BOC the one and only time. They ran around on stage an awful lot. Like ants scurrying here and there after eating 5 lbs of sugar. Very LOUD. Very animated. Good show.

Returning from Seattle several years ago, I watched a lot of gear being loaded on the plane and was wondering who was on board.
Turned out to be them. We were all seated in coach.

Band mate of mine succumbed to COPD 7 years ago. Didn't quite make age 65. There's a familial tendency to the condition. Smokers beware. :?

That's really sad,we've lost yet another great, respected musician when he should have a good many years left.Along with the 27 Club,it appears that there's a 60 Something Club on the horizon.

Ah, sad. RIP.

I'll go crank out that riff in tribute (the only bit of BOC I can play).

Cheers - C
