I've been trying to post a thread to the Stratocaster forum for about an hour and every time I hit "preview" or "submit" I get an error msg along the lines of "Sorry, we're experiencing technical difficulties..."

I've had that problem. I now copy the text after I type it but before I hit Submit. That way if it hiccups and fails, I can try again by just pasting in the almost lost text.

Me too - 'cept somehow I always seem to forget to take a copy when it's a long, detailed post. I usually remember about a half second after hitting Submit. Gnnnnh!

Thankfully, my latest browser seems to remember what I typed in the posting box if I click Back, which didn't used to be the case. Been a lifesaver a few times.

A-a-a-a-anyhow. This glitch is a known issue. Brad says it's due to the server interpreting certain combinations of characters, particularly square brackets and punctuation, as code which conflicts with it in some way. However, exactly which combinations is a bit mysterious, and it has so far defied fixing.

Sometimes if you get really obsessive you can try taking out different bits of your post in methodical succession and finally pinpoint which few characters the server objected to. I did that once and it turned out to be a section of a hyperlink address, including the square bracket of the link tag. All I had to do that time round was insert a space between the address and the bracket and it finally worked. That time.

Life is far too short to do that experiment more than once, ever.

Cheers - C
