Just thought I'd share this ... three different Strats and a Jazz Bass doing a quick cover of one of the greatest pop tunes of the 1980s. Not that there were a lot of great pop tunes in the 1980s but you know what I mean.

Enjoyed that! Although, I was expecting a slide version of "Thorn in My Pride" (Black Crowes) because of the subject line. But then that would be the 90's, wouldn't it. :o

haha, no chance of that. I don't think I can play a single song released in the 1990s.

George Harrison's slide guitar playing was a massive influence on me, his strat playing in standard tuning was always so incredibly accurate and controlled. I wish I could play with that amount of restraint and taste, I always end up just making it howl instead.

well all I can say is Howl On Frank, I was actually questioning myself if this was a song by George.

"Here Comes a Thorn in the Sun" might be a good title. Very much George's influence in that.

Very very nice. How do you put together your drum tracks?

The drum part is EZDrummer being triggered from Groove Agent's MIDI out. Makes it easy to automate fills and pattern changes and I think the patterns in Groove Agent are sometimes superior to those in EZDrummer.

Usually I separate the kit into individual output tracks then apply compression to each track and bring them all together on a stereo group track, this time I just used the EZDrummer stereo out with no effects and it seemed to work.

Damn, I wish I had that much time to play. I've been thinking about getting EZ Drummer. I've also been thinking of getting some electronic pads to see if it would move the process along a little quicker. I often lose the creative urges by getting bogged down in assembling loops. By the way, I was in Manchester just a few weeks ago for a wedding. We had perfect weather and a good time.

The weather's always perfect in Manchester. Truly it is an earthly paradise.

EZDrummer is a fantastic bit of kit and I thoroughly recommend it, the sounds are good straight out of the box but you can dig deeper and start tweaking if you want to. There's plenty of upgrade kits available but for most songs I just use the bog standard classic kit with a piccolo snare then do some EQing and compression.
