Unlike 'Sweet Little Rock and Roller" Richard's "I also don't know the words to this song either' rendition of 'Key to The Highway' did. Poor editing choice, I fear. Seems to me if a performer is going to do justice to a song, the least one could do is know the lyrics in proper order and completely. Earlier in the day I was listen to some Stones and it convinced me more than ever that Richards is best on guitar in the studio where he's clean, well thought out and carefully played. I've never seen him solo well on the live stage. Pity. Berry's original guitar solo is terrific, but tricky to play in parts.

You're right for Keef, but my reply concerns Eric's guitar solo on that particular song.

It's a shame Eric wasn't using his Gibson Byrdland as he brilliantly did with Wee Wee Hours in 1987....

FYI during the rehearsals for Hail! Hail! Rock 'N' Roll Clapton used a sunburst Strat with a rosewood neck.

The use of the Byrdland was a nod and a tribute to Berry. It was the right choice for the right moment. I'm sure that Clapton saw fit to own one for that reason alone.

I wonder for which reason Eric played Sweet Little Rock 'N' Roller with his beloved EC Grey instead of the Byrdland, which is more suited for the Chuck Berry repertoire..

Obviously those details were not a priority for him. Did you note that Clapton's guitar was capoed for what appeared to be fifth fret? You hardly ever see him use that device. That's 'cuz Richards sings in the key of "L'' these day.

Yep, and it's a rare occasion he uses the capo on EC Grey. He had never capoed the Daphne Blue, though. :|

Usually he capoes the spare Blackie while playing slide and occasionally drops the tuning a note lower depending the song.

Seems he definitely stopped using Lace Sensors as the aforementioned slide axe had been fitted with the current pickup configuration and electronic scheme as his main stage guitars.

Haul out Berry's recording and listen to that guitar solo. See if you can capture that little triplet in the first four notes and then segway into the bends and double stops that follow. Richards must have really been infected by Berry, because Berry never played serious guitar solos during his performances either. But Berry's stage work has alway been slicker that Richard's, and Berry's guitar work in studio is impeccable.

Their rendition of this famed duckwalker's Sweet Little Rock N' Roller is absolutely amazing - Eric hadn't performed any Chuck Berry song live since the mid 1980s! :)

Seeing this just solidifies in my mind how much Dan Auerbach and the Black Keys rock right now--and have been for over a decade. This is just my opinion and my evaluation of their music, the sound, the energy, the live performances (I saw them live in 2011 and have seen about 50 vids), in a vacuum, not influenced by whether it's "hipster" or not to like them. In fact, I think the Black Keys were known primarily only by "hipsters" as recently as 2008 (see the *amazing* live show that is officially released and on iTunes)...and now they have gone mainstream it is "hipster" or cliché to *not* like them. They rock out high energy, fun songs. They are not saving the world or curing cancer; neither did Jimi and neither has Clapton ever saved the world. It's just rock music. The Keys just rock so hard and so *fun* IMO compared to Clapton either now or in 1988.

Here's one where Dan jumped to the keyboard. This just rocks IMO. This entire show is *easily* worth the $12 to buy it IMO if you are even a casual fan. Really really good show. I've watched it about 50 times literally. I put it on in the morning when I'm brushing my teeth.

Get to at least 2:27 where the main beat kicks back in and observe the crowd. It's tight.

Also, South American crowds know how to watch a show.
