that is awesome. I tried to do this once, completely effed it up and had to throw it out. I do want to do something different with my airline... it looks a little too Jack White as is.

Now THAT is cool as hell.......my two Musicmasters have custom airbrush painting done by my son, but my SX Jazz bass could use some attention.

Got me thinking now. Thanx!

I don't care who you are, that's funny right there...

Looks like it would be delicate work to make those screw holes and "flare" them like that so the screw will countersink into it.

They're made by Mike and Mike's in Seattle. Super sweet product, and great guys.

With my luck, I'd make one of those to save myself $20 and find out the LP was worth $200. Doh!

Okay - so just using my not so valuable vinyl LPs I have enough on hand to make about 500 pickguards! I like the ones that leave the whole center label of the LP.

I don't think the countersunk holes for screws are very hard to do, you can do it with a regular countersink bit and your fingers. I think cutting those shapes out nice and crisp would be the hard part!

All in all, I like the idea!

The hard part, I found, was cutting them without snapping them. I read online you can heat them up in the oven, pop them out and cut them quickly...and it should go really easy... yeah, not so. cooked mine a few seconds too long, then after cutting about 3 inches it cooled and cracked. :/ Takes some skill, I say. Or better tools. Maybe if I had a band saw....

It's an interesting idea but I think the grooves would bother my fingers, just like the SRV letters.

There's a guy here in NC that makes bowls out of old LP's. He paints them then bakes them then molds them. The paint runs into all kinds of swirls. Saw it on the local TV news a few days ago. The story is repeated here if you want to see how they come out: http://triangle.news14.com/content/news/made_in_the_carolinas/698185/artist-turns-vinyl-records-into-custom-bowls

Regarding the LP pickguards, do they do bass ones? And do they ever use colored LP's? There were lots of red, gold and green LP's and even a few white ones. RCA was big on translucent red and gold LP's as I recall. Or maybe their process only works on black ones? Hmmmm.
