hi , advertised on gumtree yesterday was a brand new , still sealed celestion century vintage neo speaker for less than half price , so i pounced on it :D got it home and installed it then gave it a good bit of gentle breaking in then turned up the power amp with a nice thick tone for an hour or so , then i plugged in the flynne ams hawk boost (rory gallagher) pedal , and slowly wound the boost up , man what a sound , the ac15 sounded ok with the standard wharfdale speaker in but now theres just so much more to the sound , subtle overtones that weren't there before and much more clarity 8) i'll be taking the vox to rehersals today to give it a real workout ( must remember earplugs )
http://www.lean-business.co.uk/eshop/im ... intage.jpg , and it's as light as a really light thing thats light  i'll let you know how it handles rehersalls , cheers
Alan

greetings alan, i never thought to put neo speakers in my ac30. i run my homemade rangemaster into it and can get some great Rory tones with it. the neo speakers are definately worth looking into. my ac30c2 has the greenbacks in it so i get the usual midrange heavy sound, but i like it especially cranked up. it's good for Rory's Taste era sounds and early solo stuff. thanks for the idea.

hi Shinkicker , good to have another rory fan on board 8) , i have an ac30 on my wish list for the near future , can't wait :D but the wee ac15 c1 does a right good turn , ideal for rehersals but i doubt i'd use it for gigging , we're quite loud  , and sounds sweet as , i have a rangemaster clone i like to use for doing taste stuff , there is a treble boost switch on the hawk but i prefer the burford clone for sound (sounds just like a rangemaster 8) it was put through it's paces today playing big guns , laundromat , messin with the kid and i took the tele along for bullfrog blues and we gave crest of a wave a go , which sounded good , we'll be working on that one for sure ,
ZZ doc , hows things ? i'm making plenty of sawdust at work though mate  , deffo no sitting around though , cheers
Alan

Hi Alan,Celestions are just perfect in AC-15s and 30s.My AC-15 has a Greenback and it really sings with that speaker, getting a real Beatles sound when I plug in the old Tennessean.Wharfedales are great speakers in the meantime,my 412 BN cab that I use with my AD-120-VTH head is loaded with Steve Grindrod designed Wharfedales ( he helped develop some of the most iconic Marshall and Vox amps as well as some of the greatest Celestion speakers and currently is producing Albion amps)these speakers although way better than many on the market these days, still don't have that certain "oomph" that Celestions have.BTW I heard Rory live in 1974 and was in the 2nd row center, the sound from his AC-30 was one of the most incredible amps that I've ever heard,he could coax sounds from that old Strat on that amp that I'm sure no other amp could ever had gotten such an incredible tone.Enjoy your new set-up.Cheers.

Hi Alan, sadly the Gibson deal fell through-it appears that the seller was trying to milk more money from me by saying that the shipping would cost $397 and when I told her that dealer/collector friends of mine said that it shouldn't be more than $50 and then sent her a link proving that the weight and sizes of the package was well within USPS standard shipping sizes.Anyway after that I hadn't heard from her and she never answered any subsequent emails.Customer Relations at Reverb.com suggested that it probably be better to bow out of the deal and then they offered to notify PayPal to freeze my account and not forward any money to her.

Hello Alan, congrats celestions are great speakers. I put a celestion 18" in my old Vox Westminster cabinet.

hi Derek , it's a pitty the deal fell through but i'm sure you'll find something just as intresting to keep you occupied mate 8)

hi SBLS how things , it's amazing what a simple speaker upgrade can acomplish in an already decent amp , i'm thinking of trying out a cryo tube kit in the vox , i've heard some good things about them , cheers
