If it has any options other than GA, it probably isn't worth seeing. YEAH WOOHOO I LOVE STANDING IN ONE SPOT ALL WHILE OTHER DRUNK PEOPLE ALSO STAND IN ONE SPOT ALL NIGHT

The other night, I ended up on stage. I almost caught a drum stick to the face. We crowd surfed a fold-out table. The band was tighter than any act I've ever seen. It was $7.

You guys just need to branch out beyond the same 10-20 dinosaurs.

Wouldn't most of the bands on you signature be "dinosaur" since they're over 25 years old and a good number of them are no longer active? Because a band that's been around a long time, doesn't make them "dinosaur." Like the saying goes, don't throw rocks when you live in a glass house.

1) I haven't updated my sig in like 3 years.

2) Most of them contributed something to music other than driving prices up and lining pockets.

3) Way to focus on one word of the post. Not even a sentence, a single word.

It's more than a single word, it's your general attitude; by attacking people's musical taste. So what if somebody is 70 years old and can still fill a stadium, because people like their music, not because they are so called "brainwashed." One day you might be 70, and how would you feel if somebody said that about you, if you're still playing music?

The irony of this is that I actually like a lot of the same bands that are listed in your signature, but the difference between us is that I won't come on to this board and slag people off for what they like.

The bands you like would not exist without bands such as The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, etc... In fact, Kurt Cobain liked a lot of these bands; as an example. These groups have done a lot more than line their so called pockets. Pretty sure that Steve Albini isn't exactly starving to death after making money from producing Nirvana, and The Pixies are not broke by any means. They've had their music placed in movies and television commercials. People need to make a living, and again, live music is the only way to make a viable living these days, other than movies and tv.

Now I'm done feeding the troll. Next...

Prior to online music, mp3s, itunes, etc, a concert tour was often a promotional thing for an album/CD. A band would produce and release the recorded material and go on tour. The concert tour would often be named or themed after the recording in order to promote the album. The reason for this was the record sales were an important source of revenue.

I suspect that even back then concerts were more profitable that record sales. However, these days, with the advent of the interwebs, it's probably safe to assume that a much larger percentage of an artists income is from live performances. Proceeds from recordings are probably nowhere near what they once were.

This would explain why some acts/artist/bands attempt to squeeze more profitability out of the live performances. Therefore the price of concert tickets are radically higher - beyond even inflation adjusted prices.

The Stones, ( that's what we called them when I was a kid, "The Stones") can command extremely high prices because that's what folks are willing to pay. And they're probably willing to pay those prices because in the back of their mind there's always the thought, "This might be these old farts last tour and it's my last chance to see them before the heroin finally kills them".

Cheers

Ya I'm 60 now, but tickets in my day were $4.00-$6.00 a ticket. I used live at Blossom stage and the "Coliseum"..... At least I have my memories......[/quote]

Same age, went to the same venues. At the Coliseum saw; Springsteen (New Years Eve), Joel, Fleetwood Mac. Blossom; Benetar, Ronstadt, Boz Scaggs to name a few. Don't forget Music Hall and the Agora. Oh and Kent had The Tubes, and a few others. And the 80k+ World Series of Rock at the old Municipal Stadium. Sigh ...
