It drives me mad how you's don't see the point...

All the bands that you guys are whinging about have been around for a very long time. You're comparing the prices from now, to all the way back from when they were pretty new...They're still playing today, so of course the damn prices are gonna be high.

Like floyd said, if you actually open your mind to some new music that's not being played on the radio, you'll find that you can still find lots of concerts that are pretty damn cheap.

I'm seeing John Mayer next month for $40. That's like seeing Hendrix for $5 back in the day.

I've stopped seeing anything that commands more than $60. There are still some cats around who are willing to charge somewhat modestly.

Come to think of it, 15 years ago a speeding ticket in my area was generally around $80 or $90. Now in my area the smallest speeding ticket is at MINIMUM $300. There is keeping up with inflation and then there is just plain greed.

Most of the powers that be in local government are not evil; they are just clueless. Yep, the fiat money system failed in the fall of 2008 and we have been kicking the can down the road for nearly 5 years. At the end of the road, there is the failure of the US dollar and *massive* inflation. Like in Argentina, when one day we wake up and a loaf of bread costs $75.00. But in the meantime, the powers that be remain clueless--at the local level--so I have to pay 2000 US dollars every month for my "rent" and you pay $300 for a speeding ticket. And they are turning regular interstate highway roads into toll roads. Local government trying to sop up every last dollar, failing to face the reality that Detroit is not the only insolvent city, not by a longshot. Most major metro area cities are bankrupt, right now, today. Detroit is not the only one.

By the way, keeping this on the subject of Fender equipment, this is an argument in favor of you relieving your GAS today. The argument goes like this: buy durable goods now, while your paper dollars can still do it. In other words, it might turn out that $900 for that Fender American Strat or '65 Deluxe Reverb amp was quite a bargain when they are $5,000.00 five years from now. Not guaranteed, but that is a possibility that could be our world. It might be a good idea to use your dollars to buy quality goods now, while your dollars can still do that for you.

lol. most of the concerts I attend are under $20.

One local band I see regularly has wrecked 5 pairs of pants from the energy they put into the crowd. The experiences are worth so much more than the pants.

I'd gladly pay $40 to see Jimi Hendrix, I wouldn't pay $5 to see John Mayer, but then I'm deluded.

For anything over about £50 I'd expect the ticket to come with a steak dinner quite frankly.

From The Beatles to Prince, I've seen most of my heroes in their prime. These classic rock acts are now just an elevated version of Dick Clark's Caravan of Stars. Events of oldies and nostalgia.

Most of the new music I have no desire to see live.

So I don't really care how much they charge. I'm also happy to rent/buy the concert if I'm interested.

Some of the highlights of my concert years:

The Beatles at Candlestick Last Show
Grateful Dead numerous times at Winterland
Linda Ronstadt cub scout uniform tour in 1977
Elvis Presley 1973 at the Sahara Tahoe
Bob Dylan Warfield Theater Jesus Saves Tour [actually Slow Train Coming]
Rolling Stones Cow Palace 1976
The Who Winterland 1976
Bruce Springsteen 1978 Berkeley Community Theater and Winterland [radio broadcast night]
The Clash Warfield Theater
Elvis Costello 1978 Santa Monica Civic [Nick Lowe, Mink DeVille opening]
Prince 1982 SF Civic Controvery Tour
U2 Club show at the Old Waldorf 1981 early and late shows!!
Madonna 1985 SF Civic Virgin Tour
Neil Young Club Show Keystone Palo Alto Trans warm up shows

I no longer have a desire to revisit the past and know it's not as good or to listen to the future. mp3s and video are fine.

No where in your post do you say anything about a Rolling stones concert and no steak dinners there either, but as long as you brought it up I've seen it at a Stones concert as a matter of fact.

Funny to hear two people on here who had such different opinions on the same KISS show. Maybe just interesting to me? 8)

Anyway, with prices what they are I just go to fewer shows, on average maybe one per year. Gone are the days where the tickets cost $7.50, but the days of 89 cents per gallon gas are gone too so maybe it's all relative.

Different strokes, as long as the concert halls are still filling up there's no way, or reason, for artists to charge less. I did see the Stones in Chicago in May but was lucky and got in on the $85 lottery tickets thing. Our seats were ok for that price and I got to see the Stones live and get that off my bucket list. THe couple in line behind us got in spots in the Tongue Pit right front for their $85 so it was really random.

It's more like paying $40 to see a pile of turd that thinks it's Hendrix.

Interestingly, Chris that Kiss encounter gave me a smile
That this thread produced some vitriol about older acts and ticket prices is a smile too.
Everybody gets there if they last long enough. I'm with Riley and Floyd 100%. As the designated driver for a band member that doesn't drive I routinely see bands that can rock your face off proper for five or ten dollars, 3 or 4 bands a night. Free your mind and your ears will follow.

If it has any options other than GA, it probably isn't worth seeing. YEAH WOOHOO I LOVE STANDING IN ONE SPOT ALL WHILE OTHER DRUNK PEOPLE ALSO STAND IN ONE SPOT ALL NIGHT

The other night, I ended up on stage. I almost caught a drum stick to the face. We crowd surfed a fold-out table. The band was tighter than any act I've ever seen. It was $7.

You guys just need to branch out beyond the same 10-20 dinosaurs.

Wouldn't most of the bands on you signature be "dinosaur" since they're over 25 years old and a good number of them are no longer active? Because a band that's been around a long time, doesn't make them "dinosaur." Like the saying goes, don't throw rocks when you live in a glass house.
