There's some good shows coming to the cleveland-akron area this year. But who can afford $300.00 per seat? Come on now. To go out for a nice dinner, gas, and a concert almost $700.00 to $800.00. for an evening out? Ok $80.00 for nose bleed seats, to watch a large screen monitor, might as well watch Palladia?
Would love to see, Winwood, & Bonamassa. Maybe they'll come on video? How GREEDY can rock stars get now?
Ya I'm 60 now, but tickets in my day were $4.00-$6.00 a ticket. I used live at Blossom stage and the "Coliseum"..... At least I have my memories......

Agreed was checking prices for The Wall @ Wembley. Fair enough it's a massive show and a once in a lifetime experience, but out of my budget now. OK I caught it 1st time around at Earls Court so guess I'll have to settle for that.

Props to Patti Smith though, doing some UK dates at around £25.00 a ticket.

Of course travel and accomodation really pushes up the cost nowadays, and that goes for the artists as well as the punters.

Unfortunately for many of us, a band's economics favor touring over record/CD/MP2 sales.

With the latter, there are many beaks to wet... the Label, PR Firms, etc., and price point is pretty unmovable. You likely have to sell a million copies just to break even.

Touring, on the other hand, puts more money in the band's pocket and price point is much more flexible... limited only by what people are willing to pay to see them. At each increment a concert ticket goes up ($20, $30, $40, $50, etc.) a certain number of people will be eliminated due to price. The band's management is aware of this and so prices tix at the ideal point (for the band) to insure a sell-out.

Fortunately, we have several clubs here who bring in lots of Nat'l. talent for low ticket prices. Be sure to explore your area for such venues.

Shawn Phillips was here last week for $25. I saw Albert Lee for $30 (front row). Tonite we're seeing Nikki Hill for $5 (front row). Fri. we're seeing Walter Trout for $10 (front row) and Little Ed & the Blues Imperials the next nite for $10. Next month, we're seeing Johnny Winter w/ a front row table for $40.

That's a lot of talent for just $120 total !!

Very affordable.

Then there are annual music fests all over the US which offer lots of talent for a small price. We do JazzFest every year. At $65/day, we saw John Mayer, Kings of Leon, Billy Joel, Elton John, B.B. King, Geo. Benson, Bruce Springstein, the Beach Boys, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, the Black Crows, the Foo Fighters, etc.

cheers!

At my age, the last thing I'm prepared to do is pay a king's ransom to allow some zit-popper with a GED pat me down for a pocketknife, usher me to a seat in nosebleedville where I can't even smoke, then worry about some punk stealing my hubcaps.

Concert attendance to me is like flying on commercial air......KEEP IT!

Hell it cost a couple 200.00+ just to go out for an evening and a Baseball game. Sign of the times.

I watch most of my concerts on YT now. Unless something very special comes along I just won't pay it. Last 2 shows I saw were "The Wall". Although it was super pricey, it was something I had to go see, as it probably won't be seen again. I'm going to Steely Dan later this year in a small venue close to home, but I refuse to drop the equivalent of a car payment on a show.

I think the problem is that shows are the only way artists can make money, since practically nobody buys music anymore. Plus, streaming services like Spotify and Pandora stick it up your arse when it comes to royalties, even though they're raking it in. People fail to realise it costs a lot money to record music, if you want to put out a professional sounding product. For example, the cost of it getting professional mastered at a place like Sterling Sound costs around $200 to $250 a track and there's other expenses with recording and/or equipment. People would have no problem spending $5 on a cup of coffee you drink once, but wouldn't spend $0.99 on a download that you can listen to over again.

People who go to actual shows instead of godawful "events", in stadiums built for sports ("music" is not a sport), to see 70 year old men play the same set and scripted "encores" they played at every other date of the tour.

I just got back from a festival with 20+ bands playing, loads of artists, multiple renowned food trucks and stands, and it cost me $7.

Ehh, if you're talking 'sport stadium shows' with crowds of over 50,000 listening to a classic band that's been playing since the stone age, then of course it's gonna be #$@*&!% expensive. You're 60, so you would have been young when the big bands that are still around from the 60's and 70's started.
You're comparing the prices of when they were fresh, had relativeley little history and reputation compared to what they do now, decades after they've been playing and developing their fanbase even more, hence booking out big stadiums rather than actual music venues
Bands that are starting now, are cheap as $@!& to see, just like bands that started back in the 70's or whatever.
Yes, believe it or not, not every band started back in your day.

Total BS. I saw the Rolling Stones in 1972 for less than 10 bucks. I'm pretty sure they were well known by then. Not to mention Led Zepplin, CSN&Y and The Band.

I agree that overall concerts are overpriced--at least around here they seem that way.

But sometimes there are exceptions--some of which were mentioned.

Last summer I saw Phil Keaggy, Glenn Kaiser Band (Separate full length sets plus they jammed together for about 35 minutes after that) plus John Lee Saunders-a New Orleans keyboard player who was very entertaining AND 5 local acts for $30.

Best concert I've been to--and I've seen some big names.

They didn't have 50+ years behind them (most of which is just cheap cash grabs, mind you) behind them in 1972. They were big, they weren't "legendary" (read: highly regarded by bought-out music critics and old men who love nostalgia + their brainwashed kin).
