I'm ordering one of these, and I was under the impression that they were MIJ. However, after a bit of looking, I learned that everything after the first run has been MIM. Now, I'm not normally one to bicker about where it's made, but it seems like Fender tried to pull a fast one here. Anyone that has ayed or knows about both, are there any actual differences in the quality of the instrument or how it plays?

I had a Pawn Shop Mustang Bass, MIM. Great Bass. It has the string through the body. I don't think the MIJ does. If I wanted another short scale bass, the MIM Mustang would be it. Well finished, everything on it was exceptional quality. Mine was the sunburst finish.

How was Fender trying to pull a fast one, you're the one who made the assumption?

Minnesotastrats...he is probably a bit paranoid, he has been known to partake of the wacky weed from time to time!

I have the 2011 original made in Japan.

1. The build quality is great but...
2. It is a guitar for a young teenager or girl. It's tiny and weighs about 2 pounds. Have you held one in your hand or you're ordering online site unseen? it is waaaaay smaller than a 65 mustang....both in length and thickness of the body...it's like a mini guitar. yet the neck feels thick because it's 9.5 with 24 inch scale...I don't really like how it feels.
3. because that's what I did..I don't like mine. My least favorite guitar. the '65 reissue blows it away both for clean and high gain sounds, even though the 65 is single coil...those pickups rock in comparison.
4. only useable tone IMO on pawn shop is high gain bridge pickup on either single coil or humbucker (2 I guess). the rest of it is total mud if try to use clean tone.

I have never held the MIM one.

typed fast excuse typos.

so I can't help re the MIM difference question but I'm helping you if the answer to one question is yes:

I RECOMMEND YOU GET YOUR HANDS ON ONE IN A REAL STORE AND SEE IF YOU LIKE IT, EVEN IF YOU END UP BUYING ONLINE, IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE THAT. The photos and description on the web do not really show how SMALL and LIGHT this guitar is.

P.S. I'm keeping mine to give to my daughter when she gets older. Oh...also.. have you checked ebay. Street price on these is down to $300 for totally mint guitar. The guitar was a flop. Reason I won't sell mine is I paid $680 and can't get anything near that to sell it now. MIght as well keep it for my kids' starter guitar instead of the standard 3/4 size squire. It is a decent enough guitar...don't mean to totally bash it.

All I'm saying is it is *not* the '65 mustang with the humbucker pickups (splittable)....the actual BODY is much different frm the 65

I held one of the originals a while back, like the way it played. I'm quite small, so tiny guitars are fine.

I'm thinking that if the Enforcers flop as much as everyone on the internet says, I'll swap em out for something a bit more Gibson-y. I WOULD just get a Gibson, but I'm poor, and I do not like baseball bats.

EDIT: How great is the variance between each Gibson neck? I know in recent years they've been kinda iffy on QC, but there's a model I really want, however the finish I want is only available to order. If I go play one in a different finish, how likely is it that mine will feel completely different? I don't want a baseball bat, yo.

If either of you 2 decide to swap out the Enforcers for other pickups, I'll buy the Enforcers off you
