Know any good online theory sites?

Found these on Google:

http://www.musictheory.net This one's free

http://library.thinkquest.org/15413/theory/theory.htm this ones free too.

http://www.8notes.com/theory/ another free site.

They don't look too bad at all.

well it depends on what kind of songs you are listening to. most of the time i just go to ultimate-guitar.com and get the tabs, because the songs i listen to are harder to guess on

As usual, no personal focus here either.

'Read some stuff on staff and play until it makes sense. Play some tab until it makes sense. Listen to recordings and pick until it makes sense.

And sometimes, just pick up the guitar and play something never played before.

It's all about making music and having fun and the whole mind-body-soul connection thing comes along like a, "But wait, there's more."

I started playing by ear with my first instrument-a harmonica I got for Christmas as a kid. Next, I wanted a guitar (but got a ukelele), so played that until I got my first folk guitar. That was back when we were playing Dylan, Peter paul & Mary, Mamas & Papas. We're talking 60's and 70's. We played for all sorts of events, sometimes in front of pretty big crowds and ALL BY EAR! I had taken a little piano but never liked it until I learned to pay that by ear. Finally, after neglecting my instruments for many years, (by then I had a banjo and 12 string) I bought what I had always really wanted - a Strat! I am having a fantastic time playing along to Mark Knopfler & Emmylou Harris - pretty hot backup band!! What great luck to have a good ear.

Cheers
Gridlok

I've learned a lot of songs playing by ear. IMHO it is a lot more fun than using tabs (not to say tabs are bad of course)

Blitzkrieg Bop is a good one to practice by ear, since it uses only like 3 or 4 different power chords.

And its classic punk rock. How can you not love it?

I paid attention in music class ( well as much as any 14 year old in those days of loose halter; tight tube tops and bare midrifs and hip hugger pants)
and I am still lost. Don't know why though.....
