Quick question for all of you. What do you prefer, analog distortion or digital distortion? How about the clean channel v.s. overdrive channel. Are you a high gain person or not? Why? :?:

I like clean. The only overdrive I really like is naturally overdriven tube amp

Personally I don't like high gain. I was recently in a group and the other guitarist was an EVH fan and it was like nails on a chalk board for me. But I realize that there is a need for it in some cover songs and controlling it is an accomplishment, so I'm trying to learn to live with it and make it something I can dial up when needed.
I would prefer to just plug into an amp and go at it. I'm building a pedal board for when that doesn't cut it. I also plan on a quality two channel tube amp for when effects aren't needed.
I figure to cover classic rock correctly you need to be prepared for a lot of different sounds.

Analog. All of my gigging and recording amps are tube amps, and most of the pedals I use are transistor driven. I build a lot of my own stuff. To my ears anyway, digital amps and effects sound sterile and soulless. I also like tape recording over Pro Tools and other computer based stuff. I know I'm a dinosaur, It's just what I grew up with.

I like different types of distortion for different songs & moods.
Sometimes the amp, sometimes a pedal, sometimes both or more than one pedal.

I have 4 distortion pedals and set them all differently and use them individually or in any combination.

So I really don't have one preference, although there are some distortion pedals that don't suit my playing-and I don't like to overdo the gain.

So it depends on the song and on my mood--that's my answer.
And I like variety in my sounds.

I'd rather hear a good tube amp turned up loud, for natural distortion. I like fuzz pedals, though.
