I'm putting together my first pedal board. So far I have some basics. I have room to expand and have been looking at the Eventide pedals, Mod Factor, Time Factor and Pitch Factor. The pedals are expensive but they each have about 10 different pedals built in. Also, they take up quite a bit of space.
There's an option called the H9, which comes loaded with a bunch of their pedals and you can download all of the rest, for a fee of course. The catch is you need an Ipod or Ipad to control the H9 if you want to get the most out of the pedals. I don't have either right now so my cost of entry will be pretty high.
So my real question is are Eventide pedals worth the cost and giving up the space to them. I had an Eventide Omnipressor rackmount years ago when I had a studio and it was a pretty cool piece of gear. I've never tried their stomp boxes.

If money is no object and you are looking for quality digital devices, I would give the offerings by Strymon a look. The Timeline is a recent development in the gear world and is arguably the most advanced delay available to date; I would look at this pedal as a great alternative to the Time Factor for nearly the same price. There is also a pedal by Strymon called the Morpheus which is a real swiss-army knife type modulation unit. I would think the pairing of the Timeline and Morpheus could accomplish about anything you want, perhaps even rendering any other modulation pedal on your board obsolete.

Thanks for that. Because of the music I'm currently playing, I hadn't really considered needing the Space pedal. That would be one advantage of having the H9, is I could download those pedals if I felt a need and not take up anymore space on the pedal board. But that would mean dealing with an Ipod on stage. Some nights I can handle the complexity of getting a good setup, other nights I just want to plug into an amp and play.

It's not that money isn't an object, I'm kind of blown away by how much this pedal board is going to run when it's done. But I want to do it right the first time and not be constantly tweeking it. I don't think I'm going to need every quirky new pedal that comes out, so if I get some good quality ones that cover most of the bases, I'll probably be good. I'll look into the Strymon. I've seen the Morpheus advertised.

Another question about Eventide pedals, what do they need for power? The manual for my Pedal Power 2 says to use two outlets and a current doubler Y cable for Eventide pedals. But on the Eventide website it shows the input voltage at 9v.
If anyone is interested, here is a link to the H9 pedal that I'm thinking about.

The Space pedal uses a 9v power supply, but the connector is non-standard. It's the only pedal in my chain that I can't power with my 1Spot.

Here a track I made using it:

I have the Eventide Pitch Factor. It's an excellent quality pedal and you're quite right in that it also incorporates a few functions normally associated with other types of pedals. It runs on a standard 9V adapter, one single jack.

The initial learning curve can be just a touch on the steep side but once you get a reasonable understanding you can whiz through the menus. The various functions all use the same format for control layout.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Very nice, those are some nice effects. I wonder why my Pedal Power manual says to use a Y and two outputs? Weird.
Right now I'm leaning towards getting the H9 and an Ipod Touch to use to control it. Then I can have every effect Eventide has in one pedal. I'll just need to figure out how to get them out of the pedal when needed. :?
I probably won't buy for another week, so if anyone has any other experience with these pedals I'd like to hear it.
I searched YouTube and there's only one video (in French), that demo's the H9 and is not put out by Eventide. So I don't know if the guy liked it or not. I don't think they've sold very many of the H9's.
