Junk is a harsh hard word. What I meant was compared to a pre-CBS Strat, they did not compare. The Japanese Squires in 1979 (in my not-so-educated opinion) Seemed to be closer to a pre-CBS Strat than the 70's stratocasters were. Light-weight and toneful (just up-date the pots and sometimes the pick-ups) and you had a great guitar.
