If everyone liked the same artists, imagine how boring music would be. Variety is the spice...yada yadda....

The same people bashing JM often seem to like this guy for some reason, personally I can't tell the difference, except that JM doesn't look like he's going to work at a bank after the show.

You said a mouthful, bro. Joe does nothing for me at all, not that I'm into John either. They are interchangable in my mind.... as a non-fan. Nevertheless they both have decent chops. Perhaps it's because they play the same way I do (only they play much better) that is the reason I have no interest in them.

That being said, I have to agree with the OP. Mayer demonstrated some amazing tone on that one. Not sure if his tone is good enough to be called "the definitive Strat tone" (granting him the title of King-of-Tone) or not but it's pretty damned good.

After pausing to ponder for a moment here, I think I'd have to say that if I was going to listen to one of them I'd prolly choose John over Joe.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I'd like to know what that tone is too. It did sound like some sort of fuzz that had octave. Is it really an Octavio? If so, I gotta look out for one of those. Sounded pretty cool.

I personally don't have a problem with Mayer's guitar playing. Look at the crowds he brings. Very few people in that crowd even know it's a Fender he's playing, let alone what scale pattern he's doing. Guitar players are the only ones who get weird about that stuff. True, it's not legendary, but it's enough for him to make a damn good living. If the people are dancing and enjoying themselves and are willing to pay to see it or buy it, he's doing his job. Is every guitar player supposed to be on some quest to innovate a new scale playing guitar style the world? There sure are a lot of guitar players in this world. How many of them have actually started a new trend compared to how many exist?

I personally only know girls that really get into Mayer. None of my guy friends get into him. The girls think he's cute, and has an easy listening style musically and vocally. I can see that. He's got that going on. It is what it is, and I'm sure he's just fine with it.

As a "seasoned" music appreciation veteran (with the tinnitus to prove it ... wait, only I can hear it ... nevermind), I am just very satisfied that there is a new generation out there making music, and practicing to perfect their art, on actual musical instruments (especially guitar).

Just what are the attendees at these EDM concerts cheer for? Hey, great Alt-Ctrl-Del, DJ!!!
