I never posted this , not sure why - guess I never thought about it at the time.... but I found these pics and thought I'd share them now. About ... oh, 2 years ago I guess - my friend Eric had this guitar given to him... it was one of those "thing thing is so bad, maybe you can do SOMETHING with it, or I'm just gonna throw it out" kinda deals. well, it sat around in his office for a bit and then one day he asked me if I wanted to take it and try to do...SOMETHING...with it. heh. it was bad. like. really bad. here, see the pic...

I assume some small child was given this guitar and went crazy on it... ugh...

notice the holes all in the body, looked like it had been stabbed to death in a prison riot.

I filled those with wood putty, sanded it all down, then put several layers of paint on it.

also used some plastic paint to cover that god awful pickguard up. off white.

Ended up looking pretty good. Considering where it came from...
anyone else ever take on such a project?

I've tackled a few basket cases in my time.

Yours turned out pretty righteous, given the source material.

Rawk on!

Good job! Really turned that one around. With a little time and patience you turned crap into gold! I wish I had more time, I have a few basketcases and parts in my garage that could be made right. Keep an eye on CL for deals on stuff like this...one mans junk is another mans treasure.

Over the years I have resurrected several guitars that were well on their to Guitar Heaven.Back in the mid 70s I bought a 1965 Mustang that some tool stripped the original Olympic White from and then without fine sanding it,he simply brushed on what appeared to be one really thick coat of some sort of varnish rather than do the proper thing and apply several thin coats and lightly sand between each coat.

Anyway I stripped off his feeble attempt of "beautifying" it and bought some Candy Apple Blue paint and undercoat and carefully applied that. That made the guitar look much more classy-even if I do say so myself.Others must have thought I did a good job because after that guys I knew were always bringing in their almost junk guitars to at least get them in playable order again.

In a few days I'll probably have another refurbishing job when the Gibson B-25-12 I just bought gets here because it has 2 fairly long cracks on the back that will no doubt take some tending to and it may need some cosmetic fixing up too...I wonder if Botox works on guitars.
