Hi fender.

I've been trying to get in touch with someone from fender's marketing staff to ask if South Africa would ever be included in any of your giveaway promotions.

Who should I contact to gather more information on this topic? :?

The problem is, is that if the contest is not held by our local outlet, then say you win a $2000 guitar, you would have to pay import duties when you recieved what you essentialy got for free. Which would amount to about R3000 rand in duties.

Now this is cool for those who would easily pay R3000 for a guitar worth R35000 when retailed in local stores in South Africa, but what happens if a school kid wins it or someone who can't pay R3000 for import duties.

It just becomes complicated for FENDER USA, but I am not saying it can't be done.

I agree. It can get complicated and difficult. I just don't understand how fender compile their list of countries normally included for eligibility. It's quiet a large and diverse list with South Africa always seeming to miss out. Perhaps Fender could ship a South African winner's guitar to the South African importer of fender and have them, then pass the guitar on to the lucky contestant.

Just an idea FENDER. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

Been down that path already- however most companies run promos like this, Fender don't do international contest prizes like that for some reason.

Not sure why, but as you say- a credit to the importer would enable them to write these off as prizes, this would actually a lot cheaper & easier than shipping the product itself internationally by air.

Policies and procedures... A rule is a rule
